In the world of gaming, the fusion of history and mythology has long fascinated and excited both players and developers. That's the case for certain periods of history that have received widespread coverage in games and entertainment of all different varieties. One of these is the world of Greek mythology and the associated history of philosophy and the building of modern society.

There are indeed a fair few bingo games that are based around the period associated with Greek mythology and the specifics of the legends. Such games include the far-reaching and long-running Age of Gods series that over its years of existence has devoted itself to offering a casino experience with Ancient Greece as its backdrop. The Age of Gods Athena vs. Ares slot game deals with the inter-God conflict between the God and Goddess of War in an intriguingly designed game that takes the form of a slot. It is important to note that there are differences between bingo games and slot games, but, thanks to the ways in which online casinos have developed, bingo slots can now be found at reliable online platforms.

It is worth noting that games based around mythology don’t just take the form of bingo or slot games. Greek mythology, given its nature as one of the most captivating periods for intriguing literature, combined with the notion of Ancient Greece also being one of the most important and integral periods of history, has long been the focus of certain game series and indeed developers. For instance, the Assassin’s Creed series has been entrenched within specific historical periods, and one iteration, Odyssey, lent itself to homing in on Ancient Greece.

It recounts a secret mythological history that occurred during the Peloponnesian War and over the course of the game, the player is given the opportunity to speak to all sorts of classic figures including Plato, Democritus and Socrates, who are all credited as being pioneers of Western philosophy. More pertinently, however, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey also allows the player to take on infamous characters that are deep within Greek mythology such as both Medusa and the Minotaur.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey isn’t the only game of its type to have a hand in Ancient Greece. The first few games within the God of War series also contend with the period and specifically entrench themselves within the mythical side. For example, the first-ever God of War game, released way back in 2005 for the PlayStation 2, concerns the search for Pandora’s Box by Kratos, a Spartan soldier, in his attempts to defeat Ares, the God of War, who is ravaging Athens throughout the game’s path.

This all culminates in Kratos finding Pandora’s Box, killing Ares, and then ascending to Mount Olympus to become the new God of War. In more recent times, however, the Greek theming has been dropped with the 2018 release signaling a switch to the world of Norse mythology, but still with Kratos, the original character. Even with this switch, the Norse God of War still retained a critical acclaim that games could only dream of currently.

Greek mythology and classical, ancient history have long been of interest to not only game developers but also players and academics. Respectively, they have devoted hours and months of play and study to understand what is one of the most integral periods of time and has helped to shape not only modern society but also an entire genre of games.
