Where to find the Kappa in Assassin's Creed Shadows

In Assassin's Creed Shadows, the mythical creature known as the Kappa is part of The Yokai questline. This intriguing mission chain becomes accessible after you've spoken with Mamushi at the Nyoiji Daiji Temple in the Yamashiro region, near the Hills of Meeting. While the quest initially suggests an encounter with a fantastical beast, the reality takes a different, more grounded turn.

How to Locate the Kappa in Assassin's Creed Shadows

To initiate the Kappa event, you must fulfill specific conditions related to location and time:

Head to the Genbu Highlands: Travel to the far north of the Yamashiro region.

Follow the Stream: Specifically, locate and follow the stream that starts near the northwest corner of the Genbu Highlands.

Confirm the Clues: Your early clues about the Kappa will align with this location:

• They were reported in Yamashiro.
• They have been spotted near a haunted village.
• They have only been seen at night near a stream.

Wait for Nightfall: This is a crucial step. Assassin's Creed Shadows does not feature a manual option to change the time of day (unlike previous titles in the series, such as Odyssey or Valhalla). You will need to remain active in the game world and allow time to pass naturally. A full day-night cycle in Shadows takes approximately 48 real-life minutes, with 24 minutes for daytime and 24 minutes for nighttime. Time will pass slower if you remain idle.

Utilize Scouts (Optional but Helpful): Once you're in the general area and the conditions are met, you can use your Scouts to pinpoint the exact location if you're having trouble finding it.

Initiate the Event: Once night sets in and you are near the Haunted Tatarigami Village and the stream, the "Kappa" will appear, initiating the event.

How to Beat the Kappa in Assassin's Creed Shadows

The "Kappa sighting" is actually a clever setup for a bandit ambush. When you approach the stream near the haunted village, you won't find a mythical creature, but rather two children, named Kappa Taku and Kappa Rei, dressed in turtle-like costumes. They have lured you into a trap set by bandits within the Haunted Tatarigami Village.

To successfully complete this event, you must defeat six bandits who are part of the ambush.

• Character Recommendation: It is highly recommended to use Naoe for this segment. Her stealth abilities are exceptionally well-suited for quietly eliminating the scattered enemies.
  • Stealth Tactics: Naoe can effectively hide in tall grass and use distractions likewhistling to isolate enemies. Most of the bandits can be taken out withstealth takedowns, especially if your character is level 20 or higher.
  • Dealing with Brutes: One of the enemies will be a brute type, who cannot be taken down with a single stealth strike. You can either:
    • Weaken him with Naoe's Kunai (which are useful later in the segment and replenish quickly).
    • Engage him in direct combat after taking out the other enemies silently.
• Combat Strategy: The bandits are spread out, providing ample opportunities for silentassassinations. Prioritize eliminating the standard enemies stealthilyto reduce the numbers before confronting the brute.
• Completion: Once all six enemies have been defeated, return to the children. Theywill then reveal that they struck a deal with the bandits, luring people to the camp in exchange for food. This reveals the true, non-mythicalnature of the "Kappa" legend in this instance.
