How to Build a Base in SCUM 1.0

SCUM is a brutally difficult survival game where every fight could be your last. Because of this, having a safe spot to rest and heal up should be a top priority. However, setting up even a small camp is harder than it sounds. With how much there is to learn in the game, some players might not even realize they can build a base at all.Building a base usually comes after more urgent tasks in SCUM. This is mainly because it takes a lot of work to find the right materials and, more importantly, a good spot to build.

SCUM 1.0: How to Build a Base

You can find all items and structures related to base building in the "Base Building" tab of your Crafting menu. This tab is located in the upper-right corner of your screen. Click on it, and you'll see all the pre-made structures you can plan out and build later.

Building a Flag

The very first thing you need to build is a Flag. This acts like a claim for your land. Once you place it, you'll see acube-shaped area around it. This area shows how far you can buildthings. To build a Flag, you'll need the following materials:

• 10 Rags
• 10 Scrap Metal
• 2 Nails or Bolts
• Any Tool Box

Where to Find Materials:

• Rags: You can get Rags by tearing up any piece of clothing. If you usescissors or a scalpel (which you might find at a pharmacy in towns orvillages), you'll get more Rags from each piece of clothing. Alwayscraft a basic bag first before you go looking for loot!
• Scrap Metal: You'll find lots of Scrap Metal inside broken-down cars.
• Nails and Bolts: Look for Nails and Bolts in places like warehouses, toolsheds, and other hardware-type locations.

Note: Some items, like chests and other storage containers, can be placed even if you haven't built a flag yet.

Getting a Tool Box

To build many of the base structures, you'll need a Tool Box. You can find a regular Tool Box or a Small Tool Box as loot in the game world. Alternatively, you can craft an Improvised Tool Box using these materials:

• 2 Wooden Planks
• 2 Metal Scrap
• 1 Nail
• 1 Bolt
• Any blunt tool with 5 charges (like a rock or hammer)

Placing Items/Buildings

Choose any item or building from the "Base Building" menu.

Click the "Place" button in the lower-left corner. This will show you a ghost-like blueprint of what you want to build.

To actually build it, you need to have all the required materials either in your inventory or very close to the blueprint.

Press F to start building.

Moving Objects on the Ground:You can pick up, turn, and move chests and crafting materials that areon the ground. To do this, open any tab in your Character screen (likeyour inventory). Then, click and drag the item you want to move. Useyour Mousewheel to spin them around.

Recommendations

• It's generally a good idea to build your base somewhat close to a trader. Traders are marked by green circles on your map. However, be very careful if you're building near a trader on a PvP server, as other players might target you.
• If you're just starting out, craft a Stone Axe as soon as possible.
• Then, chop down a tree. This should give you enough wood to make a small chest.
• Place that chest on a spot where you think you might want to build a base.
• Next, build a simple Shelter near the chest. Use this shelter and chest as a temporary camp untilyou can gather enough materials to build a Flag and a more permanenthome.
