One of the most unique and formidable is Crust King Khann, a memory boss located in the Coral Tower of the Sands of Karak. While the boss fight itself is considered one of the easier memory battles, the real challenge lies in the perilous journey to reach him, which involves a lengthy gauntlet of enemies and precise platforming.

Finding Crust King Khann

Crust King Khann is a boss you will encounter in Act 3 of the game. He is part of the "Old Hearts" quest, where you must defeat three major bosses to obtain their hearts. His arena is located at the pinnacle of the Coral Tower in the Sands of Karak. To access his boss fight, you must have the Elegy of the Deep ability, a powerful skill that allows Hornet to enter the memories of ancient beings. This ability is acquired from the Snail Shamans after you've progressed through Act 3.

To reach the Sands of Karak and the Coral Tower, you can follow this path from the Pinstress bench:

• Start from the Pinstress bench in the Blasted Steps.
• Use your Clawline ability to grapple onto a series of hanging rings and reach the upper entrance of the area.
• Climb up the passage and continue to the right.
• The Sands of Karak features a unique mechanic where you must breakpearl-like seeds to create temporary platforms. Use this mechanic withprecision to navigate the treacherous environment.
• Continue using the temporary platforms and grappling points to reach the Coral Tower.
• Once you've entered the tower, you must navigate a series of challengingarena battles against waves of enemies you may not have seen before.There is a shortcut you can unlock at the end of the gauntlet to makesubsequent attempts easier.
• At the very top of the tower, you will find the petrified body of Crust King Khann. Play the Elegy of the Deep to transport yourself into his memory and begin the battle.

Crust King Khann Boss Overview

Crust King Khann is an unusual boss in that he has no melee attacks. Hisentire moveset is based on manipulating the terrain to create spikycoral hazards. While this makes him less dangerous up close, it requires constant movement and awareness of the arena. The fight is split intothree distinct phases, with the boss becoming more aggressive as thebattle progresses.

Phase 1:

• Coral Pillar: Khann will point with his hand, and a spiky coral pillar will eruptfrom the ground in a straight line. The path of the pillar istelegraphed by a line of dust that appears just before the attack.
• Coral Cross: The boss will leap into the air and bring down two diagonal coral pillars that intersect at your position.
• Coral Burst: Khann shouts, causing multiple coral growths to spawn randomly on thefloor and ceiling. You must quickly find a safe spot between the growths to avoid damage.

Phase 2:In this phase, the boss's moveset expands with one new attack and a faster pace.

• Coral Rain: Multiple coral spikes will fall from the ceiling in a telegraphedpattern, starting from one side of the arena and moving to the other.

Phase 3:The final phase introduces no new moves but significantly increases theboss's speed and aggression. Khann will begin to attack at a faster pace and can combine two moves at once, forcing you to be highly reactive.

Tips and Tricks for Victory

The key to defeating Crust King Khann is mastering movement and positioning. Here are some strategies to help you succeed:

• Tools: The Pollip Pouch combined with Tacks is highly effective. The tacks will be infused with poison, allowingthem to deal damage over time to the boss. Since the coral attacks donot despawn the tacks, you can lay them out and focus on dodging.
• Crests: The Wanderer's Crest is an excellent choice for this fight, as it allows you to attack quickly and reposition yourself to a safe spot.
• Silk Skills: The Silkspear is a great long-range option, allowing you to deal damage from a safe distance when you can't get close to the boss.
• Patience and Healing: The journey to the boss can leave you with low health. Use therelatively slow-paced first phase to heal with your Silk before the boss becomes more aggressive.
• Watch the Tells: All of CrustKing Khann's attacks are telegraphed with dust clouds or other visualcues. Pay close attention to these signals to predict and avoid hisattacks.
