Locating the Great Malboro: The Sultan of Stench
The Great Malboro, the source of the Great Malboro Tendril, is a classified enemy in the Gongaga region, the fourth region you'll visit in Chapter 9. To reveal its location:
Activate Remnawave Towers: Upon arriving in Gongaga, activate the Remnawave Towers already marked on your map. Scan Lifesprings: Find and scan four of the Lifesprings in the region. These are easily located after activating the towers. Chadley's Intel: After scanning four Lifesprings, Chadley will inform you of the Great Malboro's location, which will also be marked on your map in the southwestern corner of Gongaga. While you can fight the Great Malboro in Chapter 9, its associated quest isn't available until Chapter 12.
Defeating the Great Malboro: A Stinky Situation
The Great Malboro is a formidable opponent regardless of your party's level. Preparation is key.Weaknesses and Resistances:
- Weak to: Ice
- Lesser Resistances: Morph
- Immune to: Deprotect, Deshell, Debrave, Defaith, Slow, Stop, Poison, Silence, Sleep, Petrify, Stone, Berserk, Proportional Damage
Recommended Party and Strategy:
- Cloud: Focus on powerful, targeted attacks on the Malboro's mouth to interrupt its Bad Breath attack.
- Aerith: Concentrate on using Ice spells for both damage and to pressure the enemy.
- Tifa: Capitalize on opportunities when Aerith pressures the Malboro to stagger it.
Battle Tips:
- Ice Materia and Shiva: Equip each party member with Ice Materia and consider using the Shiva summon, as the Great Malboro is weak to Ice damage.
- Save ATB: Conserve your ATB bars, allowing them to build up.
- Interrupt Bad Breath: When the Malboro opens its mouth for a breath attack, use Ice magic from all party members to interrupt the attack and stagger the enemy.
- Ranged Advantage: Aerith's ranged attacks are particularly useful, as she can maintain distance and deal magic damage effectively.
- Mist Management: When mist covers the battlefield, focus on reviving downed allies rather than healing. Health will deplete quickly in the mist, making healing less efficient.
- Prioritize Ice: Continue to stagger the Malboro with Ice attacks to speed up the fight.

Upon defeating the Great Malboro, you'll receive the Great Malboro Tendril. This item is used to craft Legendary Bait, required for the "Trouble in Paradise" quest. This quest becomes available in Chapter 12 by interacting with the quest board in Costa Del Sol.Legendary Bait Recipe:

- Jabberwock Horn
- 5x Pearl Ginger Root
- 5x Ether Onion
