Waystones in Path of Exile 2 determine the monster level of map nodes, influencing the difficulty and rewards you receive. While Tier 15 Waystones are the highest dropped tier, you can access maps with even higher monster levels (effectively Tier 16, 17, 18, and 19) through specific methods. This guide explains how.

Path of Exile 2: How to Get Tier 16+ Waystones

Tier 16 Waystones do exist as items, but they're not obtained through regular drops. You must convert a Tier 15 Waystone.

• The Conversion Process: Using a Tier 15 Waystone on a map node has a chance to transform it. There are four possible outcomes:
• Success! The Tier 15 Waystone becomes a Tier 16 Waystone (desired outcome).
• Downgrade: The Tier 15 Waystone becomes a Tier 14 Waystone (undesirable).
• Reroll: The Tier 15 Waystone's modifiers are randomized (common).
• Nothing: No change occurs (also common).
• Rarity: The chance of a Tier 15 Waystone converting into a Tier 16 is quite low (estimated at under 5%). The downgrade to Tier 14 is also relatively rare. The other two outcomes (reroll and nothing) are the most frequent.
• Reforging Bench: The Reforging Bench cannot be used to combine three Tier 15 Waystones into a Tier 16. This combining method only works for Tier 1-14 Waystones.

Tier 17 & 18 Waystones: Achieving the Effect

Actual Tier 17 and 18 Waystones do not exist as items. However, you can achieve the effect of these higher tiers by strategically using map modifiers on Atlas nodes.

• Waystone Tier's Influence: Waystone tier only dictates the base monster level of a map node.
• Corrupted and Irradiated Modifiers:
  • Corrupted: These modifiers are pre-determined by the Atlas and cannot be changed.
  • Irradiated: These modifiers can be added to a map using an Irradiated Precursor Tablet at a nearby Tower.
• Monster Level Increase: Certain combinations of Corrupted and Irradiated modifiers on a mapnode can increase the monster level, effectively mimicking the effect of Tier 17 or 18 Waystones.
• Benefits of High-Level Maps: These high-level maps are essential for:
  • Farming Level 20 Skill Gems and Level 20 Spirit Gems (Level 19 gems drop at Tier 17 effect, Level 20 gems at Tier 18 effect).
  • Acquiring all Boss Atlas skill points.
  • Obtaining higher item level gear, which can roll unique modifiers not available on lower item level gear.

Tier 19 Waystones: A Gamble with Tier 16

The effect of a Tier 19 Waystone (level 83 enemies) can be achieved through a gamble with Tier 16 Waystones.

• The Combination: Use aTier 16 Waystone on a map node that already has the Corrupted andIrradiated modifiers that grant +2 to Monster Level (effectively a Tier18 effect). Also, take the "Corrupted Infusion" passive skill in theAtlas Tree.
• Corrupted Infusion: The "Corrupted Infusion" passive skill's description states: "CorruptedWaystones are Corrupted an additional time when traversing a map."
• The Gamble: Using a Tier 16 Waystone again with the "Corrupted Infusion" node can either increase or decrease the monster level.
• Possible Outcomes: Using a Tier 16 Waystone in this scenario has four potential results:

• Success! The effect becomes that of a Tier 19 Waystone (Level 83 enemies).
• Downgrade: The effect becomes that of a Tier 17 Waystone (Level 81 enemies).
• Reroll: The Tier 16 effect's modifiers are randomized.
• Nothing: No change occurs.
• Checking Monster Level: You can verify the monster level of a map by pressing Tab and looking at the brown text in the top right corner.

This process of usingmodifiers and the Corrupted Infusion passive skill allows players toaccess map content with monster levels equivalent to Tier 16-19Waystones, even though the actual items only exist up to Tier 16. Thegamble with Tier 16 stones and Corrupted Infusion is the only way toeffectively access the monster level of a theoretical Tier 19 Waystone.
