How to Use Vehicle Backup Tool in Dune Awakening

The Vehicle Backup Tool in Dune: Awakening is an invaluable piece of equipment, allowing players to store their vehicles in their inventory, protecting them from environmental damage like radiation and heat, and restoring them at will. However, to maintain game balance, the developers have implemented certain limitations that are not always immediately obvious.2

Dune Awakening: How to Use Vehicle Backup Tool

The Vehicle Backup Tool can be crafted at a standard Fabricator under the "Vehicles" section. The crafting costs are:

• Copper Ingot x6
• Particle Capacitor x2

To use the tool:

• To store a vehicle: Equip the Vehicle Backup Tool, aim at the vehicle you wish to store, and press the activation hotkey.5 You will see two green arrows indicating that storage is possible if the vehicle is in range.
• To restore a vehicle: With the Vehicle Backup Tool equipped, point at an empty space until a green hologram of the vehicle appears. Press the activation hotkey again to restore it.

Important Considerations:

• Restoring vehicles might experience a minor delay due to server lag. If this happens, try moving around with the tool equipped until the green hologram appears.
• Some PvP zones disallow vehicle restoration; players will need to return to a PvE zone for normal operation.
• A vehicle cannot be stored in the Vehicle Backup Tool if it has anything in its inventory. Make sure to empty the vehicle's cargo space before attempting to store it.

Which Vehicles Can Be Stored Using the Vehicle Backup Tool

In Dune: Awakening, players can only store a Sandbike or a Scout Ornithopter with the Vehicle Backup Tool. This limitation is in place to prevent players from trivializing thedifficulty of late-game supply runs, especially in the treacherous DeepDesert.

The following larger vehicles cannot be stored in the Vehicle Backup Tool:

• The Buggy
• Assault Ornithopter
• Carrier Ornithopter
• Sandcrawler

To transport these larger vehicles between locations, players must eitherride them directly to their destination or disassemble them, store their individual parts in their personal inventory, and then reassemble themat the new location.

Note: The Vehicle Backup Tool is one of the few items that is not destroyed in a Sandworm attack. Any vehicle currently stored inside the tool will also remain safe.

Can You Store More Than One Vehicle Using the Vehicle Backup Tool?

No, you cannot. In Dune: Awakening, players are limited to storing only one vehicle at a time with the Vehicle Backup Tool.

The number indicator (e.g., "1/10") that appears when equipping the Vehicle Backup Tool refers to the total number of vehicles a player owns, not the number of vehicles the tool can store simultaneously.

Fabricating multiple Vehicle Backup Tools will not increase this storage limit. The game will only recognize one instance of a stored vehicle as being active. If you store a Sandbike using one Vehicle Backup Tool and then equip another one, that second tool will show the same Sandbike stored inside it.
