How to Build a Deep Desert Base in Dune Awakening

By Ambar Jimenez | 2025-07-20 12:01:11
In Dune: Awakening, while the Hagga Basin serves as a reliable PvE hub for early to mid-game progression, advancing to the Plastanium tier and beyond necessitates venturing into the perilous Deep Desert. This endgame region holds crucial resources like Titanium, Stravidium Mass, and Spice Sand, which are vital for crafting top-tier gear. Given that the Deep Desert is a mix of PvE and PvP zones, with a majority of high-value resources located in PvP areas, establishing a forward operating base here is crucial for efficient resource processing and transport. This guide will cover everything you need to know about building a Deep Desert base in Dune: Awakening.

Where Should You Build Your Deep Desert Base in Dune: Awakening?

The Deep Desert is a massive 9x9 grid map. At launch, it was predominantly PvP, but a recent update has shifted its layout to 50% PvP and 50% PvE. The dividing line between these zones is the "E" row:
  • PvE Section: Rows A to the midpoint of Row E.
  • PvP Section: The other half of Row E to Row I.
Recommendation: It is highly recommended to build your Deep Desert base within the PvE sections (Rows A to E) to prevent it from being raided by other players when a sandstorm hits. While bases can be raided in PvP zones during level 3+ sandstorms, PvE zone bases remain protected from player destruction, though they are still affected by the weekly Coriolis Storm.Once you've scouted a suitable rocky landmass for your base, secure your claim by placing a regular or Advanced Sub-Fief using salvaged metal. For optimal access to both PvE resources and the edge of PvP zones (for high-tier materials), consider building your base in the upper half of Row D or the lower half of Row E, ensuring your entire base footprint remains within the PvE side of the E row. Building in Row A can be ideal for a more relaxed experience and quick access to Hagga Basin.

How to Build a Deep Desert Base in Dune: Awakening

One significant advantage of building in the Deep Desert is that all building costs are halved. This means you'll require only half the Granite, Plastone, and otherresources needed for refineries and storage compared to building in theHagga Basin.

Here's a list of essential builds and machinery, along with their halved material costs, to kickstart your Deep Desert base for refining Spice Sand and Plastanium:

Build/MachineryMaterials Required (Half Cost)Notes
Main BaseGranite Stone (CHOAM) or Plastone (Faction Base Building Set)This refers to your foundational building pieces (walls, floors, etc.).
14 Generators322 Salvaged Metal (23 x 14)An ideal power output is around 1000. Generators are recommended as theyrun on simple fuel cells, which are easier to manage than wind turbinesin a dynamic environment like the Deep Desert.
2 Large Windtraps240 Duraluminum Ingots (120 x 2), 250 Silicon Blocks (125 x 2), 70 Calibrated Servoks (35 x 2), 6 Spice Melange (3 x 2)Windtraps will be your primary source of water in the Deep Desert, as othermethods (like small condensers) are less viable for large-scaleproduction. You can increase the number of Windtraps based on your water requirements.
3 Large Water Cisterns222 Duraluminum Ingots (74 x 3), 240 Silicon Blocks (80 x 3), 39 Industrial Pumps (13 x 3)Each Large Water Cistern stores up to 100,000 liters of water. 300,000liters is a good starting point for refining, as water is needed fordrinking, crafting Stravidium Fibers, producing Plastanium, and creating Spice Melange.
3 Storage Containers69 Aluminum Ingots (23 x 3), 12 Silicon Blocks (4 x 3)Essential for storing all raw resources (Titanium Ore, Stravidium Mass, SpiceSand), processed materials (Plastanium, Stravidium Fiber, SpiceMelange), and other loot acquired in the Deep Desert.
Medium Chemical Refinery75 Duraluminum Ingots, 45 Silicone Blocks, 25 Complex Machinery, 18 Spice MelangePrimarily used to refine Stravidium Mass into Stravidium Fiber. Also useful for producing occasional fuel cells if needed. (StravidiumFiber requires 3x Stravidium Mass + 100ml Water to craft 1x Fiber).
Medium Ore Refinery63 Steel Ingots, 30 Cobalt Paste, 25 Complex MachineryCrucial for creating Plastanium Ingots from Titanium Ore and Stravidium Fiber. (Plastanium Ingot requires 6xTitanium Ore + 1x Stravidium Fiber + 1250ml Water for Medium OreRefinery; 4x Titanium Ore + 1x Stravidium Fiber + 1250ml Water for Large Ore Refinery).
Spice RefinerySmall: 80 Duraluminum Ingots, 65 Silicone Blocks, 40 Cobalt Paste, 35 Complex Machinery (This is the cost for the Small Spice Refinery to start)Start with a Small Spice Refinery to process initial Spice Sand. Once youhave sufficient Spice Melange (at least 68, or enough to build theMedium version), invest in a Medium Spice Refinery. The Medium refinery is significantly more efficient: a Small SpiceRefinery turns 100 Spice Sands into 1 Spice Melange, while a MediumSpice Refinery turns 750 Spice Sands into 10 Spice Melange (33% moreefficient).
Pentashield Surface1 Steel Ingot, 10 Cobalt Paste, 3 Calibrated Servoks (per tile)A Pentashield is crucial for protecting your Ornithopter and othersensitive outdoor machinery from the damaging effects of Deep DesertSandstorms. Note that Pentashields also consume power per tile covered.

Transporting Materials: It's highly recommended to use an Assault Ornithopter for transferring materials from Hagga Basin to the Deep Desert due to its 1000-volume storage capacity, which is double that of a Scout Ornithopter (500v).

The Coriolis Storm and Weekly Resets

A critical aspect of the Deep Desert is the Coriolis Storm, which acts as a weekly server wipe.

  • What it does: Every week, the Coriolis Storm sweeps across the entire Deep Desert, destroying all bases, vehicles, and items left within it. It also randomizes the terrain, resource nodes, and Points of Interest.
  • Schedule: The Coriolis Storm typically hits weekly, with alerts appearing on your screen (usually 5 hours prior on Mondays) regardless of your locationon Arrakis. The full storm can last for several hours, with windsintensifying.
  • Preparation: To avoid losing your valuable assets, you must transfer everything back to your Hagga Basin base before the Coriolis Storm hits. It's recommended to do this four to five hours before the storm's arrival, giving you ample time to dismantle and transportyour resources. You will be refunded the full construction cost ofdemolished base parts in the Deep Desert.
  • Rebuilding: After the server wipe (typically Tuesday mornings), the Deep Desertwill have a new layout. You will then need to re-establish your base, using the resources you safely transferred back to Hagga Basin. Consider using a Solido Replicator to create a Solido Projection (blueprint) of your base layout to quickly reconstruct it each week.

Building and maintaining a Deep Desert base is an advanced aspect of Dune:Awakening's endgame, designed to facilitate the acquisition andprocessing of high-tier materials necessary for ultimate progression.Careful planning and timely transfers are key to success in thisvolatile region.
