How to Find Buried Treasure in Dune Awakening

In Dune: Awakening, one of the side quests involves finding Buried Treasure in the expansive desert. While the game doesn't provide extensive tutorials for this, the process is straightforward once you understand the necessary steps and tools.

Dune Awakening: How to Find Buried Treasure

Buried Treasure can be located by scanning the open desert. This can be done using either a Handheld Resource Scanner or Vehicle-mounted Scanners.

• Using the Handheld Resource Scanner:
• Equip the Handheld Resource Scanner.
• Press its activation key (which emits a blue pulse).
• If the pulse detects Buried Treasure, you will see a yellow-bordered diamond icon with a chest on your screen.
• Approach the icon and use a Static Compactor to dig up the Buried Treasure.
• Using Vehicle Scanners:
• Ensure you have a Scanner module installed on your Sandbike or Scout Ornithopter.
• Press the Scanner hotkey displayed at the bottom of your screen (this icon only appears if a Scanner module is installed).
• Once you get a ping indicating treasure, exit your vehicle.
• Use the Static Compactor to excavate the Buried Treasure.

Note: The Static Compactor unlocks after completing the Third Trial of Aql.Important Tip: Buried treasures seem to appear for scanning/digging up only after a sandstorm has just passed through the area. This is because, according to quest descriptions, sandstorms pull items closer to the surface. It's best to look for undisturbed areas with open sand and no hazards like quicksand or drumsand. Areas where Flour Sand spawns are often good starting points.

What are Opafire Gems for?

In addition to various random resources, Buried Treasures also contain Opafire Gems. These rare gems are used to fulfill Great House requests in the Landsraad menu. The Landsraad essentially functions as an endgame questing system forGuilds, where various Houses will request specific items. DeliveringOpafire Gems is often one of these requests, and contributing them canearn you a variety of rewards.

How to Get Handheld and Vehicle Scanners in Dune: Awakening

Scanners are unlocked by researching their relevant components using Intel. If you chose "Locked Research" at the start of the game, you'll need to complete main game objectives to unlock scanner research.

• Handheld Resource Scanner:
  • This scanner can be acquired by researching it under "Iron Products" in the "Exploration" category of your research tree.
  • Crafting Components:
    • Iron Ingot: 9
    • EMF Generator: 6
• Vehicle Scanners:
  • There are two Vehicle Scanners available in the base version of Dune: Awakening, both unlocked via Research.
  • Sandbike Scanner Mk2:
    • Crafting Components:
      • Iron Ingot: 20
      • Advanced Servos: 11
    • Compatible Vehicle: Any Sandbike
  • Scout Ornithopter Scan Module:
    • Crafting Components:
      • Water: 507
      • Aluminum Ingot: 55
      • Particle Capacitor: 31
      • Cobalt Paste: 27
      • Complex Machinery: 23
    • Compatible Vehicle: Any Scout Ornithopter

Benefits of Vehicle Scanners: Vehicle Scanners offer significant advantages over the Handheld Scanner in terms of range and safety. With a Handheld Scanner, you are exposed in the middle of the desert,risking sandworm attacks. Vehicle Scanners greatly reduce this risk, and since you move faster, you'll cover more ground and find treasures more efficiently.

Vehicles that cannot be equipped with a scanner module: The Buggy, Assault Ornithopter, Carrier Ornithopter, and Sandcrawler.
