How to Use Thumper in Dune Awakening

In Dune: Awakening, players face a constant threat from the colossal sandworms that ceaselessly roam the sands of Arrakis. To safely extract the valuable resources, like Spice Blooms or Flour Sand, that emerge from the desert floor, a crucial tool is the Thumper.These devices are designed to provoke and direct sandworm attacks, making them valuable in both PvE (Player vs. Environment) and PvP (Player vs. Player) scenarios. This guide will provide a comprehensive understanding of the Thumper and its effective utilization.

How To Unlock the Thumper in Dune: Awakening

The Thumper is an essential Fremen tool that becomes available as players progress through the "Trials of Aql" main story questline. Specifically, it is unlocked after completing the fifth trial. This trial also includes a brief tutorial on how to use the Thumper to attract a sandworm, though it doesn't fully detail its strategic applications in combat or resource gathering.

How To Attract/Distract Sandworms Using The Thumper

To deploy a Thumper in Dune: Awakening:

Equip it: Place the Thumper in your hotbar, just like any other tool.

Deploy in Open Sand: Use the corresponding hotbar key (1 to 8) to deploy it in an open sand area.

Once deployed, the Thumper will begin to pulsate, sending out shockwavesthat generate an "extreme Sandworm threat." This threat will override any other source of attraction within the sandworm's detection radius.

Strategic Deployment:

• Distance is Key: Since sandworms 'patrol' specific open sand areas, you should deploythe Thumper as far away as possible from your intended looting orfarming spot (like a Flour Sand or Spice Bloom).
• Immediate Evasion: After deploying a Thumper, you must leave the area immediately to avoid becoming worm food.
• Avoid High-Threat Gear: Be extremely careful not to activate Holtzman Shields or use Suspensor Belts near the Thumper. These items generate their own attraction fields,which can cause the sandworm to re-route its aggression towards you,even overriding the Thumper's signal.

Advanced Distraction Tactics:Players should ideally place Thumpers in the opposite direction to where they are attempting to farm Spice. Deploying several Thumpersin quick succession will effectively confuse the sandworm and keep itoccupied for a longer period, allowing players to farm Spice moreleisurely on the other side of the sandpit.

How To Use Thumper In Dune: Awakening PvP

The Thumper can be a powerful tool for disrupting rival clans or simply having fun thwarting large-scale Spice operations in Dune: Awakening PvP scenarios. However, this comes with inherent high risk, asPvP-flagged zones often result in players being killed on sight.Therefore, using the Thumper in PvP requires stealth and precision.

Disrupting Enemy Operations:

Observation: While in the Open Desert or PvP-flagged zones (especially near Wrecks), use your Binoculars to observe enemy players who are farming Spice or other resources from the open sand.

Stealthy Approach: Look for a way to approach them undetected. Bindu Sprint is highly effective for this. If you are also wearing Softstep Boots to reduce your personal worm threat, you can safely reach the Spice Bloom where others are farming.

Deploy and Flee: Once you're close enough, quickly drop the Thumper, then use Bindu Sprint again to rapidly flee back to a safe hiding spot and observe the ensuing chaos.

During PvP Engagements (Clan vs. Clan):In direct PvP battles or Clan vs. Clan situations, dropping a Thumperand escaping becomes even easier, as your opponents will likely bepreoccupied with aiming at the source of your attacks. However, watch out for crossfire! There's always a chance that the player using the Thumper to disrupt an operation might inadvertently become a victim themselves in the ensuing melee.
