How to Change Factions in Dune Awakening

In Dune: Awakening, players can align themselves with either the noble Atreides or the ruthless Harkonnen factions, a choice that significantly impacts their PvP and PvE endgame experience on Arrakis. Should you find yourself regretting your initial allegiance, the game does offer the option to switch sides, though such treachery comes with notable consequences.

Dune Awakening : How to Change Factions

If you decide to shift your allegiance to the opposing faction, you'll need to travel to Anvil Outpost in Vermillius Gap. Once there, seek out the faction representatives:

• For the Harkonnen, speak with Maxim Kazmir.
• For the Atreides, speak with Lt. Tolliver.

Faction Betrayal Consequences in Dune: Awakening

Upon speaking with either Kazmir orTolliver after becoming an official member of a faction, you will find a dialogue option allowing you to betray your current allegiance.Selecting this option will trigger a warning message outlining thesevere repercussions:

• Permanent Exile: Traitors will never be allowed to rejoin the faction they betrayed. This decision is irreversible for that specific faction.
• Territorial Ban: Traitors will be barred from entering the betrayed faction's territories. This restricts your movement and access to certain areas of the map.
• Guild Expulsion: You will be kicked out of any guilds aligned with the betrayed faction.
• Contract Termination: All active contracts related to the betrayed faction will be automatically canceled.

Regarding Cosmetics:If your primary concern is collecting cosmetic items (for weapons,armor, vehicles, and faction-based building sets), you'll be relieved to know that you can still purchase an opposing faction's cosmetics from specific traders.

• For Atreides players: Speak to one of the NPCs at the Scrap Trader in Arrakeen to acquire Harkonnen cosmetics.
• For Harkonnen players: Go to the Weapons Vendor in Harko Village to purchase Atreides cosmetics.

Alternate Faction Switch NPCs

If Maxim Kazmir or Lt. Tolliver at Anvil Outpost are not presenting youwith the option to betray your faction, you might need to visitalternative NPCs:

• To switch from Atreides to Harkonnen: Speak to Piter de Vries. He is located at Harko's landing zone, directly across from the Harko faction vendor.
• To switch from Harkonnen to Atreides: Speak with Thufir Hawat. He can be found on the opposite side of Arrakeen, near the Ornithopter landing zones.

The reason for these two different sets of NPCs to initiate betrayal quests is not fully clear, but it appears to be linked to your currentstanding (faction level) with your existing faction. It has beenobserved that betrayal quests can be started at Anvil Outpost if yourfaction standing is at level 2. Conversely, Piter deVries may not offer betrayal options if you approach him as a level 2Atreides member. This suggests a potential requirement for a lower orspecific faction standing with the alternative NPCs.
