What Animals are in Death Stranding 2?

You will begin to encounter wild animals in Death Stranding 2 after completing Order 15. This order is assigned after you have successfully connected Rainbow Valley to the Chiral Network and met Rainy. Following this, you can head to the DHV Magellan's order terminal to receive Order 15: Deliver the Test Subject Kangaroo to the Animal Shelter. This mission requires you to find a wild kangaroo amidst a bushfire and transport it to the Animal Shelter, which will then be connected to the Chiral Network.After Order 15 is completed, Australia will be populated with various animals that players can find and rescue. The animals you can collect and deliver to the Animal Shelter include:

• Bilby
• Echidna
• Emu
• Kangaroo
• Koala
• Lyrebird
• Platypus
• Quokka
• Tasmanian Devil
• Wombat

To locate these animals, you'll need to use your scanner by tapping L1. Animals are not displayed as typical cargo, so you'll need to look closely at your screen for blue silhouettes that highlight them. Wild animals do not have set spawn locations; they can often be found roaming freely across Australia. Since this is Australia, expect to see kangaroos hopping across plains and koalas clinging to trees for naps, so keep an eye on both the ground and the tree line as you search.

How to Capture Animals in Death Stranding 2

Once you've located a wild animal, you can capture it by approaching it and hitting the Square button. Sam will then place the animal into an Animal Carrier. This essentially converts the animal into cargo, but it's far morefragile than other cargo types, so you'll need to be cautious duringtransport. Animals can be carried on Sam's back or in a vehicle, butthey cannot be transported via fast travel with the DHV Magellan. Once captured, the only destination for a wild animal is the AnimalShelter, where you'll receive likes and free the animal onto thereservation to roam.

There are a few strategies for capturing wild animals:

Surprise Approach: You can simply sprint towards the animal and repeatedly spam the Square button to surprise it and quickly initiate the capture.

Non-Lethal Incapacitation: Alternatively, you can shoot the wild animal with rubber bullets or other non-lethal weapons to knock it out. This makes it easier to approach and transport without it trying to flee.

Wild animals are naturally skittish and wary of humans. If you approachwithout sneaking or if you make too much noise, the animal will attemptto flee.

Once you deliver your first wild animal to the Animal Shelter, you will earn the "Creature Comforter" trophy, which is a bronze rank trophy.

Can You Pet the Animals in Death Stranding 2?

Captured animals will roam freely within the Animal Sanctuary, but they are notinterested in direct interaction like petting or head scratches. You cannot pet the animals. However, you can give them likes. While approaching them might cause them to run away due to theirskittish nature, you can learn more about them from the SSS tab in yourmenu, which even includes narration to provide deeper insights.

Can You Kill Animals in Death Stranding 2?

It's an important point to address: players can indeed kill animals, though it's strongly discouraged. You can use weapons on animals, andyou can also run them over with vehicles. While a deceased wild animalwill not turn into a BT or cause a voidout, killing one will result inSam losing over 100 likes, and it's generally considered animmoral act within the game's narrative. Therefore, the game encouragesyou to rescue these creatures instead.
