Our guide today aims to explain to you How to Fix Black Myth Wukong Lighting/Screen Flickering.
Black Myth: Wukong is a great-looking game inspired by Chinese mythology. Many gamers took a liking to it since its recent release. However, some of these gamers have faced one really irritating problem-constant flickering of the light in the game. In this article, we will describe one possible reason for that issue and discuss several ways to try to fix it for you.
Players have been complaining about lighting flickers in Black Myth: Wukong, even on high-end PCs. Well, if you are one of them, you are not alone. Although there isn't an official fix, yet, there are some potential ways you can take to remove the flickering and thus play the game without disturbances.
How to Fix Black Myth Wukong Lighting/Screen Flickering?
While the developers haven't proffered a concrete solution to date, several player-tested workarounds can be used to fix the nagging flickering lights issue in Black Myth: Wukong. Here are potential fixes to try:
Basic Troubleshooting
- Reboot: Sometimes, simple software glitches can indeed be resolved with a reboot.
- Update drivers: Ensure that your GPU drivers are updated. Please visit your GPU manufacturer's official website for the latest ones. Using older drivers can lead to different graphical issues, such as flickering lights.
Adjusting Graphics Settings
- Ambient Occlusion: Make sure it's enabled in your GPU Control Panel and change it to "Performance Mode." That should help find a balance in visual quality and performance while lessening the flickering of the lights.
If the problem is still persistent, try adjusting the Ambient Occlusion setting for quality more up or down. Sometimes it's just a matter of fiddling with stuff to get it improved.
Ray Tracing
- Give in-game Ray Tracing a shot and change it to Very High. I know this will be taxing on any computer, but it could fix the issue you're facing with your gaming rig.
- If you notice after applying Ray Tracing that the flickering seems worse, you can revert it to High or even Medium.
- Note that enabling Ray Tracing consumes resources, so you may need to adjust other graphical settings accordingly.
Global Lighting and Shadows
Turning low Global Lighting and high Shadows may fix or at least reduce flickering in Black Myth: Wukong. Often the sweet spot between the stabilization of visual output and the overall quality of the said output, this one surely keeps it balanced. Lower Global Lighting is responsible for making the workload on the GPU a bit lighter to probably overcome the flickering problems. Setting Shadows to High will give more oomph to the visual fidelity without giving significant extra strain to the GPU.
DLSS
Try increasing the quality of DLSS for even less flicker. DLSS works by rendering the image at a lower resolution and then upscales it to display resolution using AI. This will reduce the load on the GPU and thereby reduce flickering. DLSS will be more useful in graphically intense gameplay such as Black Myth: Wukong. If it impacts performance, try turning other graphical settings down, such as anti-aliasing or texture quality, to try and balance graphics clarity with smoothness.
Variable Refresh Rate
If the flickering does not disappear, try disabling VRR (G-Sync or FreeSync). It synchronizes the refresh rate of your screen with the frame rate of the GPU for the purpose of reducing screen tearing. The bad news is that, more often than not, it introduces some visual inconsistencies in case the game has dynamic frame rates. So, disabling VRR might help prevent such issues from appearing. Worth noting is that VRR is usually quite helpful, mostly to reduce screen tearing and generally make visuals smoother. It therefore must be a last resort, in case flickering proves to be too much of an issue.
FPS Cap
Limiting the FPS also does its part in smoothing out visuals. Creating a cap on the frame rate either from inside the game or through the graphics card control panel can make the GPU not overwork itself, hence reducing flickering. This usually can also reduce any lag input. However, setting it too low will result in choppy gameplay; some trial and error can be done with different caps until a sweet spot between visual stability and responsiveness is reached.
Additional Tips
Beyond those specific settings, here are some general tips for getting the best performance and visual quality from Black Myth: Wukong:
- Keep drivers up to date: If you're using one, ensure that the drivers of your graphics card are updated. Quite often, drivers update contains performance optimizations and bugs that can result in better performance and stability.
- Look for game updates: The game developers may have released patches with known issues or introduce any performance enhancements.
- Monitor the GPU temperature: Overheating can result in performance issues and instability. Make sure you cool down your GPU.
- Overclock, but very carefully: In case you have a compatible GPU with a cooling system, then overclocking may possibly improve performance. However, overclocking also increases unstable conditions and the potential for damage. So, if you must proceed with this option, then do so very carefully and closely monitor your system.
That's all you need to know about How to Fix Black Myth Wukong Lighting and Screen Flickering, apply one of the fixes and continue enjoying the game.
