How to Get Different Character Tattoos in Baldur's Gate 3

1. Using the In-Game Mod Manager (PC & Console)

For players who are new to modding or are playing on console, the in-game mod manager is the most straightforward option.

• Accessing the Mod Manager: From the main menu of the Baldur's Gate 3 home screen, select the "Mod Manager" button. This will take you to a catalog of available mods.
• Browse for Tattoos: You can browse the catalog by category or type. To find tattoos, simply search for "Tattoo."
• Lemon Tattoo Replacer Packs: You'll likely encounter various packs under the name "Lemon Tattoo replacer packs." These are popular choices for tattoo customization.
• Download and Install: Browse these packs, choose the set of tattoos you prefer, and click the "Download" button to install the mod directly.
• Effect: On your next playthrough and during character creation for your custom Tav, you will find that the default tattoos have been replaced by the designs from the pack you selected.

Important Note for In-Game Mod Manager: The in-game mod manager variants of these tattoo mods are replacers, not additions. This means they will overwrite the existing default tattoos with new patterns and designs, rather than adding new tattoo slots or options alongside the originals. This limitation is due to the constraints of the in-game mod manager and console modding capabilities. If you're playing on console or prefer to stick to official in-game modding, these replacer packs are generally your best and most accessible option.

2. Using an External Mod Manager (PC Only)

For PC players who are comfortable with, or willing to learn, external modding tools, the BG3 Mod Manager (BG3MM) offers more flexibility and a wider array of tattoo options, including "non-replacer" mods.

• Downloading BG3MM: You'll first need to download the BG3 Mod Manager itself. It's a popular third-party tool designed specifically for Baldur's Gate 3 mod management.
• Nexus Mods: Once you have BG3MM set up, you can head over to Nexus Mods, a large community hub for game mods.
• Finding More Tattoo Mods: On Nexus Mods, you'll find a much larger selection of tattoo mods thanare available in the in-game mod manager. Crucially, you can also find tattoo additions rather than just replacers.
• Recommended Non-Replacer Mod: A notable example is the "Lemon Makeup and Tattoo Non-Replacer" mod. This mod offers a collection of the popular Lemon tattoos (and makeup designs) but integrates them as additional options, leaving the vanilla tattoos intact.
• Installation with BG3MM: Download the mod files from Nexus Mods (usually .pak files) and import them into BG3MM. You'll then drag them from the right panel to the left panel (the active mod list) and ensure they are inthe correct load order (refer to the mod's description page for specific instructions, as some mods require others to load before them, e.g.,"Lemon Shaders" often needs to load before Lemon tattoo packs).
