How to Get Birthright in Baldur's Gate 3

In Baldur's Gate 3, enhancing a character's base attributes is crucial for optimizing their performance. While feats offer one way to achieve this, certain gear pieces provide significant attribute bonuses, even if they don't always appear to be battle-ready. One such item is the Birthright hat.

Where to Get Birthright in Baldur's Gate 3

Birthright is an Act 3 item, meaning you'll only encounter it once you reach the bustling city of Baldur's Gate.

• Location: Head directly to Sorcerous Sundries, a prominent magical shop in the Lower City (located around X: -14 Y: -72).
• Vendor: The Birthright hat can be purchased from the individual behind the front desk. This will either be:
  • Rolan: If you successfully saved him in previous acts and he made it to Baldur's Gate.
  • Lorroakan's Projection: If Rolan is not present or cannot be interacted with for trade.
• Price: Regardless of who is selling it, Birthright costs 1,025 Gold. You can attempt to lower this price by improving your relationship with the merchant through dialogue or by having a character with high Charisma or proficiency in Persuasion/Intimidation make the purchase.

Important Note on Rolan's Availability: Depending on your choices in Act 3 regarding the Nightsong and Lorroakan, Rolan might stop selling items to you. If this occurs and you still wish to acquire Birthright, your only remaining options are:

• Pickpocketing: Attempt to stealthily steal it from Rolan's inventory. This can be challenging and carries significant risk if you're caught.
• Killing and Looting: Defeat Rolan in combat and loot the hat from his corpse. This is a dangerous option and will have narrative consequences.

Best Class/Character to Give Birthright to in Baldur's Gate 3

Birthright's primary benefit is its powerful enchantment: Charisma +2 (up to 22). This makes it an exceptional item for any character that relies heavily on Charisma.

• Warlock or Bard: These classes are, by far, the best recipients for Birthright.
  • Warlocks: For a Warlock, especially one focused on Eldritch Blast, this hat is incredibly potent. The Agonising Blast Eldritch Invocation (a feat-like ability for Warlocks) adds yourCharisma modifier to the damage of each Eldritch Blast beam. IncreasingCharisma to 22 with Birthright means a +6 Charisma modifier, directlytranslating to a substantial damage boost.
  • Bards:Bards also heavily utilize Charisma for their spellcasting, BardicInspiration, and many of their dialogue-based skill checks (Persuasion,Deception, Performance). A higher Charisma score makes them moreeffective in both combat and social encounters.
• Wyll: If your main character isn't a Warlock or Bard, Wyll (a Warlock companion) is the ideal party member to equip Birthright on. It will significantly enhance his combat effectiveness, particularlywith his Eldritch Blast.
• Paladin or Sorcerer:Depending on your specific build, some Paladin and Sorcerer characterscan also benefit greatly from Birthright. These classes also useCharisma as their spellcasting ability. However, for sheer damagescaling, particularly with Agonising Blast, Warlocks often gain the most from reaching 22 Charisma.
• Maxed Charisma Characters: If a character's Charisma is already at 20 (the typical maximum forability scores through standard progression and feats), Birthright willpush it to an impressive 22, resulting in a +6 Charisma modifier.
• Headgear Slot: Since headgear typically doesn't determine Armor Class (AC) in the same way body armor does, Birthright is an excellent choice for a caster orsupport character who prioritizes increasing their primary spellcastingattribute for more damage, higher spell save DCs, or better dialoguechecks.
