How to Do a Manual in Skate 4

Mastering the manual is a fundamental skill for any player in the Skate series, and this remains true in Skate 4. Manuals are the key to connecting individual tricks into long, high-scoring combinations. While the controls in the new game are more sensitive than in previous titles, they offer a deeper level of control once you get the hang of them.

How to Do a Manual

A standard manual is a wheelie performed on the two back wheels of your skateboard. Getting the input correct requires a light touch. Here is a step-by-step breakdown:
  • Gain Momentum: You need to be rolling to successfully enter and hold a manual. Start by gaining some speed on your board.
  • Gently Pull Back on the Right Stick: This is the most crucial part of the process. Subtly pull back on the right analog stick. If you push the stick too far or too fast, your skater will crouch to prepare for an Ollie instead of performing a manual. The key is to find the "sweet spot" in the stick's movement, somewhere between its neutral position and the point where it triggers an Ollie.
  • Hold Your Balance: Once in the manual, you must make small, precise adjustments with the right analog stick to maintain your balance.
    • If the front of your board begins to drop, gently pull back on the stick to lift it.
    • If the back wheels start to fall and your board is about to drop down, gently push the stick forward to correct your balance.
  • A great way to practice this is by heading to a large, flat area in San Vansterdam. Start by rolling slowly, pop into a manual, and see how long you can hold it. As you get more comfortable, you can increase your speed.

    Performing a Nose Manual

Once you've mastered the standard manual, you can work on itscounterpart, the nose manual. This is performed on the two front wheelsof the board. The controls are the reverse of a regular manual.

    • To do a nose manual, subtly push the right analog stick forward and hold it in place.
    • Just like with the manual, it's all about finding and maintaining yourbalance with subtle movements of the stick. With practice, you'll beable to control how high your board tilts, which can be useful foravoiding obstacles.

    Linking Manuals into Combos

The true value of manuals becomes clear when you start using them to chaintricks together. This allows you to rack up massive scores and createstylish lines.

    • To link a manual after a trick, perform your flip, grind, or other trick as normal.
    • As you are about to land, gently move the right analog stick to the manual (pulled back) or nose manual (pushed forward) position.
    • If youtime it correctly, your skater will land and immediately roll into amanual, preserving your combo and allowing you to transition seamlesslyinto your next trick.
