Our guide today aims to explain to you How to make a rain collector in Project Zomboid, let's see.

One of the most important things you can do for your long-term survival in Project Zomboid is to set up a base of operations, or multiple bases, so you can store supplies. Water collectors are an essential part of the plan to make these bases self-sufficient.

Months after the first outbreak in Knox Country, if you manage to survive long enough in Project Zomboid, the water and electricity will be cut off. So, stock up on generators and rain barrels since you only have a short window of opportunity to become completely self-sufficient. Rain collectors are a lot easier to implement than electricity, so you shouldn't have to wait long to have more than enough water for everything you need in Project Zomboid. The recipe for these is here!

How to make a rain collector in Project Zomboid?

Open containers that can collect rainwater for later use are known as rain collectors, and they work just as the (wooden) name suggests. Although it must be cooked before it can be consumed, this water is perfectly fine for washing clothes, your Project Zomboid avatar, and plants.

Aside from the standard wooden box with one side cut off, Project Zomboid also features a barrel as a rain collector. The blueprints for these two straightforward and easy-to-build structures may be obtained by leveling up your Carpentry skill to 4 and 7, respectively. That "Fast Learner" trait must be at the ready now, right?

Building a rain collector requires:

  • a hammer, any kind
  • Four boards
  • Four Nails
  • Four trash bags

Once you've taken care of all the necessary steps, enter the context menu by right-clicking. From the "Carpentry" sub-menu, choose "Furniture." From there, select the rain collector you want to construct. Then you may put it up anywhere you think it would work best and start playing. Another option is to hold off on going all out until it starts to rain. In the end, that's how a rain barrel functions. Ideally, you should put them on a roof or in a completely enclosed courtyard, where they will be accessible and safe from zombies.

Of course, water collectors in the form of a barrel and a crate have certain distinguishing features. A maximum of 160 units of water—equivalent to 8 water bottles' worth of liquid—can be stored in the more convenient and less complicated crate collector. In contrast, twenty water bottles can be filled from the 400 units of water contained in the barrel.

How can I locate a Zomboid rain collector?

Among the many things to look out for in Project Zomboid's Knox Country is the possibility of finding pre-existing rain collectors. It goes without saying that, if you have the space, you should take them with you everywhere you go.

If you're looking for an easy way to collect rain on the fly, you can also find metal drums lying around. For Project Zomboid, the best kind of rain collector is a metal drum because it can contain up to 800 units of water.

You can find metal drums near the campsites in Louisville; unfortunately, as of Build 41, you'll need to employ mods to build them, which limits their usefulness. I wouldn't say it's a terrible idea on its own.
