In addition to the return of all the beloved Call of Pripyat detectors, STALKER 2 also features a new mid-tier option that's perfect for the early game. It doesn't matter which one you pick, though; the starting Echo detector is the worst of the four, so you want to go beyond it as soon as you can. Where to Find All Detectors in STALKER 2?
STALKER 2 has at least four different detector models:
- Echo Locator
- Hilka Device for Detecting Bears
- Locator for Veles
It's worth noting upfront that it might take a bit of time before you're able to upgrade from the Echo to anything else, but I've listed them here in order of utility/Koupon investment. The following are special missions to get some detectors in STALKER 2:
- Hilka Detector: This is to be found in the Garbage area during the "Budmo!" side-mission.
- You'll find the Bear Detector inside the Noontide base on Wild Island. It's one of the rewards for completing the "A Sign of Hope" side-mission.
- You will be given the Veles Detector as part of the main quest line during the "In Search of Past Glory" task.
- That being said, I have received a Hilka-type detector from the Barkeep's inventory at the 100 Rads Bar in Rostok without having undertaken the "Budmo!" side quest. It took me no more than a couple of hours to find one floating around in the overworld, perhaps as a randomly placed drop in the game. That is to say, there are several ways to upgrade your favorite detector, though the easiest is to complete the related quests.
How do the different Detectors work in STALKER 2?
It will immediately become apparent that there is a little learning curve to operating a new detector in practice as soon as you get your hands on one in STALKER 2. Though this will already be second nature to experienced players, I've included a brief summary of how each of the game's detectors works below for those starting out:
- If it pulsates more often, you have a sensor: An Echo detector: the more you near to the artifact, the greater number of times is LED will pulse.
- Hilka Detector: the number on your display shows the distance, in meters, to the Artifact; as you approach the artifact the number decreases, however, the screen refresh slowly and you should be well cautious.
- Bear Detector: you shall know Artifact's radar about its approximation to Skif and respect orientation.
- With the Veles Detector, an enhanced radar locks onto the exact location of the next Artifact; it blazes as a bright red dot on the screen.
Let it be known that an adept Stalker can find almost any Artifact in the game using the Echo Detector. But with modern detectors, it's much easier to do this, so you won't have to risk your neck carelessly. So, in order to get more out of your artifact detector, the higher the price tag, the better.
Even though you are not planning to buy a Veles Detector, if you can find one in any trader's inventory, it is highly advised that you upgrade to Hilka and/or Bear since these two are way more useful than the baseline Echo Detector.
