How to Evolve Gible in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Garchomp stands as one of the most celebrated and dominant Dragon-type Pokémon in the entire franchise. In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, this ferocious Ground/Dragon powerhouse is not only available early on but can also be Mega Evolved, allowing it to compete with heavyweights like Dragonite and Salamence.Unlike some late-game powerhouses, acquiring Garchomp is surprisingly accessible, provided you know exactly where to look for its pre-evolution, Gible. This guide will walk you through finding Gible, quickly leveling it up to its final form, and securing the Mega Stone needed to unlock its true, ultimate potential.

Pokemon Legends Z-A: How to Evolve Gible

The Hunt for Gible: Location and Strategy

Your journey to obtaining Garchomp starts with finding its tiny, land-shark pre-evolution, Gible. This occurs relatively early in the game after completing a key segment of the main story.

Finding the Dig Holes in Wild Zone 8

  • Prerequisite: You must first complete Main Mission 9: Chase that Mysterious Pokémon to unlock the area.
  • Location: Gible resides in Wild Zone 8, a sandy, open region characterized by numerous dig holes surrounded by small piles of mud.
  • The Shared Spawn: Most of these holes will contain a Drilbur, the pre-evolution of Excadrill. However, these dig holes serve as shared spawn points, meaning there's a small chance for a Gible to emerge instead.
  • Visual Identification: To quickly check the occupants without engaging, peer inside the holes. If you see a small, red dot framed by white, it's a Drilbur. If youspot a distinct, small blue protrusion—the tip of Gible’s head—jutting out, you’ve found your target.

The Respawn Trick

If you don't find a Gible immediately, there is an efficient way to force the spawns to refresh:

  • Fast Travel Reset: Simply exit the area (or lose its aggression), then Fast Travel back to Wild Zone 8. This action immediately resets all Pokémon spawns, including the ones inside the dig holes.
  • Avoid Combat: Do not attack or capture the Drilbur if you see them. If you defeat a Pokémon in a shared spawn point, thatspecific spot goes on a cooldown timer, preventing any new Pokémon(including Gible) from appearing there for a period. Repeatedly use theFast Travel method until you spot the blue protrusion.

The Evolution Path: From Gible to Garchomp

Once Gible is captured, the path to Garchomp is straightforward, requiring two distinct level thresholds.

Evolution Steps

  • Gible to Gabite: Gible evolves into Gabite at Level 24. If you caught your Gible in Wild Zone 8, it will likely be at this level, allowing for an immediate evolution.
  • Gabite to Garchomp: Gabite evolves into Garchomp at Level 48.

Leveling can be done by actively using Gabite in battles, but the fastest method is by feeding it EXP Candies or Rare Candies earned from missions or high-level raids. Once it hits Level 48,confirm the evolution to unleash your new pseudo-legendary Pokémon.

The Alpha Alternative (Post-Game)

While catching and evolving Gible is the fastest early-game method, players who reach the post-game (after the main story) unlock Wild Zone 20. In this zone, all fully-evolved Pokémon have a chance to appear as Alpha Pokémon. This means you can hunt for and catch an Alpha Garchomp—a massive, high-stat variant—though this often requires significant patience and time investment.

Unlocking Mega Garchomp: The Garchompite

No Garchomp is complete without the ability to tap into its Mega Evolution, transforming it into the even more terrifying Mega Garchomp.

Acquiring the Mega Stone

  • Obtain the Mega Ring: First, you must complete Main Mission 10: The Secrets of Mega Evolution, which grants you the ability to Mega Evolve any Pokémon holding the correct Mega Stone.
  • Visit the Stone Emporium: The necessary item, the Garchompite Mega Stone, is purchased from the Stone Emporium for 70,000 Poké Dollars. The Emporium is conveniently located on Vernal Avenue, directly south of the iconic Prism Tower.
  • Equip the Stone: Once purchased, give the Garchompite to your Garchomp to hold.

Mega Evolving in Battle

With the Mega Ring and the Garchompite equipped, your Garchomp is ready for battle. In any combat encounter, provided its Mega Meter is full, simply press the Right Stick (R3) to initiate the transformation, unleashing the unparalleled might ofMega Garchomp upon your foes. This is the ultimate form of power for one of Pokémon Legends: Z-A's most formidable allies.
