Bloodlines 2: How to Get New Abilities
The Foundations: Skill Points and XP
Phyre's baseline development relies on a system familiar to veterans of the RPG genre.Acquiring Skill Points
- Earning XP: You gain Experience Points (XP) by completing standard activities in Seattle: defeating enemies, finding collectibles, and successfully finishing main and side quests.
- Leveling Up: Instead of seeing a traditional character level increase, earning enough XP grants you a Skill Point.
- Unlocking Abilities: These Skill Points are the fundamental currency used to unlock new abilities. You manage this progression through the Abilities screen in the pause menu (accessed via Escape/Start). Weaker abilities require fewer points, while stronger, advanced powers demand more significant investment.
The Clan Versatility
A key feature of Phyre is their extraordinary ability to access and utilize the powers of all Clan Bloodlines, not just their starting Clan. While your initial choice dictates yourfirst set of powers, you are not limited by it. Later in the story, yougain the ability to Awaken the abilities of other Clans using a special resource.
Resonant Blood: Awakening the Disciplines
To tap into the forbidden or foreign powers of other vampire Clans, Phyre must first Awaken those Disciplines using Resonant Blood—specialized blood types drained from mortals.
Identifying Resonant Blood Carriers
Mortals who carry this potent blood are identifiable in several ways:
- Special Icons: They will have a distinctive icon floating above their head.
- Map Markers: Their location will be highlighted on your minimap, ensuring you always know where to find a potential source.
- Heightened Vision: When you activate Heightened Vision, these mortals will display a unique colored silhouette, indicating the type of dormant blood they possess.
Resonating with the Target
You cannot simply feed on these individuals to get the desired blood. You must first resonate with their emotional state by engaging them in conversation and choosing the correct dialogue options.

The Fashion Influence
In a subtle but impactful mechanic, your chosen outfit can affect the outcome of these resonance attempts. For example,wearing fancy, pretentious clothes might prompt a red-glowing individual to try and mug you (triggering antagonism), while a seductive Toreadoroutfit might lift the spirits of a blue-glowing person, causing theirintended Melancholic resonance to fade away. Be sure to dressappropriately for the emotional state you wish to trigger.
Making Contact: Unlocking the Full Roster
Gathering Skill Points and Resonant Blood isn't enough; you must present yourcollected resources to the appropriate authority figures.
The Clan Contacts
To actually learn and activate the abilities of a new Clan, you must speak to the high-ranking members—the Clan Contacts—who serve as the local representatives for their respective Bloodlines.

The Unlock Process
- Access: These contacts become available once you have completed the early-game political choice regarding the fate of Benny Muldoon.
- Awakening: Speak to the contact, select the ability you wish to Awaken using your stored Resonant Blood.
- Final Cost: After the ability is Awakened, you must then spend your accumulated Skill Points to fully unlock and utilize the power. Note that abilities from Clansnot native to Phyre will typically cost more Skill Points, a cost thatcan be lowered by building Clan Affinity with that faction.
By strategically combining XP-based Skill Points with the emotionallycharged resource of Resonant Blood, you will guide Phyre on the journeyto reclaiming their true power as a force to be reckoned with inSeattle's underworld.
