Sony lost the compatibility function with previous versions of PS4. But, it seems, the Japanese company wants to compensate with its next-generation console. Recently a new patent emerged suggesting full compatibility with previous versions on the PS5.
Full compatibility with previous versions on PS5: what does it mean?

The full compatibility with previous versions on the PS5 means that the next generation console would be compatible with all the previous consoles: PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4. If it's true, then it would be a real treat for fans.

This new patent of Sony Interactive Entertainment was presented on January 20, 2017 and published on January 31, 2019. The list of inventors of the patent includes Mark Cerny, who is the main architect of the PS4, and Simon Pilgrim, the main programmer of Sony. Entertainment in Europe.

The Pilgrim listing on LinkedIn further supports claims of full compatibility with previous versions on the PS5, notes an IGN report. "Developing multiplatform geometry, animation and geometry libraries optimized for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4," says the LinkedIn list.

Speaking of Sony's new patent, it details the software that could be run from legacy devices in a new device. In addition, the patent states that components such as a CPU in the new device will be faster and, therefore, will not be able to support older software. Then, the new device would come with technology that would trick legacy software to imitate legacy devices. Even the diagrams that are shown in the patent suggestion of "simulations" processors identifications to deceive the system.
Does it really come?

Achieving full compatibility with previous versions on the PS5 may not be an easy thing. Emulating the PS4 on the PS5 could be relatively simpler than emulating previous consoles, such as the PS3, which has a different architecture, especially its cellular processor. This was reportedly the main reason why Sony had difficulty making the PS4 compatible with previous versions. But, the new patent suggests that Sony may have found a way to address the above problems.

It should be noted that the patent does not refer to any game console. But, in large part it is believed that the patent is talking about full backward compatibility in PS5. Another speculation is that the patent could be a new addition to the PS4, since it only mentions a new device application.

In addition, another possibility is that it is just another patent of the Japanese company without any guarantee that it has actually been implemented.

However, if Sony somehow manages to achieve full backward compatibility on the PS5, it could be the biggest point of sale. A user on a Reddit thread discussing this latest patent said: "That would make me buy a PS5 on day 1. I would also be a PS fan for life, just because all my games are in a PS account, so I can really see the commercial sense of this. "
