In this guide entry we explain everything about How to Remove a Curse in Divinity Original Sin 2.
When a character falls under the influence of a Curse, their accuracy, dodging capability, and elemental resistances are greatly lowered, making them highly vulnerable in combat. On the higher tiers of difficulty, most noticeably on Tactician, this will all but guarantee defeat. Luckily, it is easy to cure through a number of different means.
How to Remove a Curse in Divinity Original Sin 2?
There are three main ways you can cure Cursed in DOS2:
- Blessing (Source Spell).
- Scrolls of Resurrection.
- Loading a previous save.
- Use Blessing
Bless is an extremely useful spell in Divinity: Original Sin 2, mostly for its ability to remove the Cursed status effect from any character. Bless is a Source Skill and uses Source Points to cast. You can't use your Source Collar until it's removed. Fortunately, Cursed is not fatal, so the wait for a cure shouldn't be a big deal.
Bless cannot be learned from a Skill Book; you need to visit the Hall of Echoes in Fort Joy and speak with your race's patron to learn it. To do this as quickly as possible, make your way to the Statue of the Seven in the Hollow Marshes (X: 517, Y: 173), east of the Flaming Pigs. Be prepared for an ambush; some Voidwoken are waiting to pounce.
Using Bless on the afflicted character will cure Diseased, Decaying Touch, Petrified and Stunned conditions.
Use a Resurrection Scroll
Without the required Source Points to cast Bless or if your Source Collar is still in place, the first method won't be an option for you. To effortlessly lift a curse from a character (without the use of Bless), simply eliminate them and then bring them back to life with a Resurrection Scroll. By taking this action, nearly all active effects on the user are eliminated, including any curses.
You can purchase Resurrection Scrolls from just about any vendor. The cost is in deep gold, but they can easily be stolen with no consequences. Later in the game, one has little concern with finances, as resources can be quickly recovered, if desired, with no hit to your character's reputation.
Of course, many players like to craft Resurrection Scrolls using the following recipe:
- Paper, imbued with the essence of water, and the essence of life.
- During DOS2 Story Mode, all characters receive a free skill that lets them resurrect allies out of combat, making a Resurrection Scroll unnecessary.
If your party features a Necromancer, then they can use the potent combination of Living on the Edge (Level 9 Spell) and Last Rites (Level 16 Spell) to bring a character back into the land of the living out of combat, for the same incredible effect. However, since this is only available so late in the playthrough, the Resurrection Scroll method is far more expedient.
Load an Earlier Save
It may go without saying, but if you load a save from prior to when your character became cursed, you'll save resources on their cure. If the curse is due to a trap, you can position summoned creatures so that they trigger it upon reload, which means you won't get the curse directly on your second try.
How to Break Curses from Enchanted Objects
Some equipment in Divinity: Original Sin 2 are cursed, meaning that they will afflict a curse upon the character wearing them. The above methods work for these Curses as well, but there's one important point to consider. If a character is wearing a Cursed Item, putting Bless on them will remove the curse. However, if you die and then get resurrected using a Resurrect Scroll, the Curse will immediately be put on again and you would need to cast Bless all over again to remove it once more. If you have removed the cursed item before getting resurrected, the curse does not come back.
