Death Stranding 2: On the Beach builds upon the foundation of its predecessor by introducing new ways to enhance Sam Porter Bridges' abilities. While the first game primarily relied on equipping better gear for increased cargo hauling capacity, the sequel introduces
APAS Enhancements, a new system that allows players to customize Sam's skills more deeply. Unlocking these enhancements requires a specific resource:
APAS Memory.
Understanding Why You Need to Increase Memory in Death Stranding 2
APAS Memory acts as an in-game points system used to activate various APAS Enhancements for Sam. Each enhancement has a specific Memory cost, and you need to have enough accumulated APAS Memory to unlock and equip it.This feature unlocks early in the game, specifically when you arrive in Australia (around Episode 3: Drawbridge). Initially, you start with a limited amount, typically around 150 APAS Memory, which only allows for a few basic abilities. To access the more powerful and specialized enhancements that truly tailor Sam to your playstyle, you'll need to actively increase your APAS Memory.APAS Enhancements cover a range of categories, including:
- Porter: Enhancements related to carrying cargo and navigating terrain.
- Combat: Boosts for dealing with human and BT enemies.
- Stealth: Perks for remaining undetected.
- Servicemanship: Skills for general exploration and utility.
- Bridge Link: Benefits related to interacting with other players' structures and features.
The good news is that APAS Enhancements are highly flexible. You can freely activate or deactivate nodes as long as you are within the Chiral Network, allowing you to adapt Sam's build to different situations on the fly. You can even reset all nodes by holding the Triangle button while in the APAS Enhancements menu.
How Can You Increase APAS Memory in Death Stranding 2?
There are two primary ways to acquire more APAS Memory:
Connect Locations to the Chiral Network:- As Sam journeys across Australia, a core objective is to expand the Chiral Network by connecting various centers and facilities using his Q-pid.
- Whenever you connect a new area to the Chiral Network, Sam is rewarded with a significant amount of APAS Memory. This reward can range between 20 and 35 points per connection.
- Many of these connections are integral to the main story progression, meaning that simply playing through the campaign will naturally help you accumulate a substantial amount of APAS Memory. Actively seeking outand connecting new facilities is a highly efficient method.
Increase Facility Connection Levels:- An alternative method involves increasing your Connection Level (star rating) with the various centers and bases you encounter.
- You can raise a facility's connection level by returning lost cargo to them, completing standard orders (side quests) for them, or fulfilling aid requests.
- While this method also grants APAS Memory, the amount is smaller per level increase, typically around 15 APAS Memory points.
- However, increasing Connection Levels with facilities also unlocks othervaluable rewards, such as new weapons, vehicle upgrades, backpackpatches, and even new APAS Enhancements directly tied to the facility'sspecialization.
By focusing on both expandingthe Chiral Network and building strong relationships with facilitiesthrough deliveries, you will steadily increase your APAS Memory, allowing you to unlock a wider array of enhancements and customize Sam's abilities to face any challenge the world of Death Stranding 2 throws at him.
