How to Initiate the "Light and Shadows" Quest:

  • Travel to the Iga Region: Make your way to the Iga region on the game map.
  • Return to Naoe's Home: Locate Naoe's residence within the Iga region. The house should already be marked on your map if you have progressed through the "Before the Fall" quest with Naoe, which likely involved visiting this location during flashbacks. The Igan settlement is situated in the middle-eastern part of the Iga region.
  • Find Matsu's Letter: Upon arriving at Naoe's Home, you will find a letter from Matsu. The letter reveals that she is seeking a secluded place in the mountains to pass away peacefully.
  • Locate Matsu Using League's Scouts: Finding Matsu won't be straightforward. Utilize the League's Scouts, focusing on an area slightly to the southeast of the Nabari Wilds. Employing the scouts in this region will reveal Matsu's location on your map.
  • Gather Worms for Matsu: After finding Matsu, she will request worms. Head to the north side of the Nabari Wilds. Follow the stream in this area, and you will eventually come across a deer corpse. Collect the worms from this location.
  • Return to Matsu and Uncover the Deception: Return to Matsu with the worms. You will then discover that her illness was not genuine.
  • Speak to Yoshimaru: Talk to Yoshimaru again. It's important not to reveal that his granddaughter, Matsu, was faking her illness during this conversation.
  • Receive the Task: Yoshimaru, unaware of Matsu's deception, will task you with retrieving three lanterns from Kashiwara Manor. This officially begins the objective of this part of the "Light and Shadows" quest.

    • Locating Kashiwara Manor in Assassin's Creed Shadows:

  • Starting Point: Hiiyama Map Marker: Begin your search from the Hiiyama map marker.
  • Follow the River: From the Hiiyama marker, proceed by following the course of the river.
  • Check the River Fork: As you follow the river, be attentive for a fork in its path.
  • Use Scouts to the Left: At the fork in the river, utilize your Scouts to investigate the areato the left. This scouting action will reveal the precise location ofKashiwara Manor on your map.
  • Travel to Kashiwara Manor: Once the manor's location is revealed, travel to the designated restricted zone.


    • Retrieving the Lanterns from Kashiwara Manor:

  • Eliminate Enemies: Upon arriving at Kashiwara Manor, the area will be populated byenemies. Engage and defeat all hostile individuals within the manorgrounds.
  • Beware the Elite with the Kanabo: Be particularly cautious of the Elite enemy wielding a Kanabo (a heavyclub). This enemy is described as the most dangerous in the area. Theirattacks are wide-reaching, and their kicks can stagger Naoe with asingle hit, so exercise caution and be prepared to dodge and countereffectively.
  • Locate the Three Lanterns: After securing the manor by defeating all enemies, you will need tofind the three lanterns. Use Naoe's "focus" ability. This will highlight interactive objects in the environment, and the lanterns should appearas three distinct blue dots, pinpointing their locations:
    • Lantern 1: One lantern is located on the left side, inside one of the buildings of the manor.
    • Lantern 2: The second lantern can be found in the building situated in the middle of the Kashiwara Manor area.
    • Lantern 3: The third and final lantern is located to the right of the main entrance, inside a small warehouse or similar structure.
  • Collect the Lanterns: Approach each of the highlighted locations and interact with the lanterns to pick them up.


    • Completing the "Light and Shadows" Quest:

  • Return to Yoshimaru: Once you have successfully collected all three lanterns from Kashiwara Manor, return to Yoshimaru.
  • Deliver the Lanterns: Deliver the lanterns to Yoshimaru. The guide notes that you will arrive "just in time for dinner."
  • Choose the Dialogue Option: Yoshimaru will ask you what the light of the lanterns feels like. When presented with dialogue choices, select "Home".
