We invite you to discover How to Solve the Wailing Tower Puzzle in Witchfire, a new task in this incredible and moving game.
Smack in the middle of Witchfire first map, the Island of the Damned, is the Wailing Tower. Beneath the Island of the Damned is a horrific structure harboring a terrible secret-a multilevel tomb. If you've gotten this far, waiting for you on the last floor is one of the game's familiars, the Prophet, and the opportunity to unlock the Rotweaver weapon.
It's not that simple to be granted an audience with the Prophet, though. In Witchfire, you simply can't progress any further along without proving your worth by solving the Wailing Tower puzzle. Like most rogue-lite puzzles, you've got a set of steps you need to finish before you'll be allowed to unlock the Wailing Tower; let me take you through them.
First, a red magical barrier is going to block your way to the entrance of Wailing Tower. Upon getting too close to the doors, some kind of protective system turns on and unleashes an endless barrage of foes. The thing you need to do in Witchfire is to find Saint Albert's Scepter to activate the security barrier so that he can get inside the Wailing Tower.
You don't have to go into the Wailing Tower on the first try in Witchfire's rogue lite development. Enter the Hermitorium only when you have cleaned the Island of the Damned from all the monsters and leveled up a bit to be stronger.
The doors will open once you clear the enemy wave and place Saint Albert's Scepter in the hands of the statue on the right. The use of your volatile witchfire crystals will also give you the ability to instantly kill all foes in the area. Once you interact with the statue, press the on-screen button prompt; otherwise, the adversaries catch up with you.
The Saint Albert's Scepter drops off a corpse wearing yellow robes that spawns in either the northeastern half of the map, or the wide area overlooking the Wailing Tower entrances. Which it is however is unique to each player. Above, you can see the looted Saint Albert's Scepter along the cliff edge in Witchfire. The second one is just right beside the stairs as soon as you come from the north and make a left after climbing that steep trail.
Some may be your trigger or catalyst for Saint Albert's Scepter to auto-spawn in Witchfire, some may not. Thankfully, the object in concern is always marked on your map. So, you should just continue exploring Damned Island up until the Scepter shows up.
The important thing to note is that you can only use Saint Albert's Scepter once after looting it. You can die thereafter and the doors will be open.
Inside the Wailing Tower, there's a skeletal sarcophagus surrounded by seven braziers. Activating the braziers in the right order will solve the Wailing Tower puzzle, opening up the entrance to the rooms beneath the floor. Before you can get going in Witchfire, there's some requirements you'll have to fulfill.
Inside the Wailing Tower, once you enter, get the Scarlet Coast Chart and the spell Firebreath. The former gives you an opportunity to get one free elemental spell, while the latter will give access to Witchfire's second map.
Across the northwestern area of the Island of the Damned, you will find seven temples, all titled "Ceremonial Obelisks." In Witchfire, turning on each of these obelisks will mark them on your map. You can see where they are in the image up above.
A hint about what order you should light the fires in on the Wailing Tower can be found in the individual Ceremonial Obelisk's descriptions. You can see their descriptions by mousing over each of the obelisk icons on your map. This is handy because you'll only ever have to unlock the shrines once, and you can do it in whatever order you want.
Gnosis is a separate system of tiers which determines accessibility of content; it somewhat correlates with difficulty. You need to solve the puzzle of the Island of the Damned not before doing two Gnosis level ups from Hermitorium since the blazing braziers in the Wailing Tower are locked behind Gnosis 2.
There are no Gnosis upgrade penalties. Once you've cleaned up Scarlet Coast and killed its boss, return to the Wailing Tower to have enough time for leveling up and taking the most powerful Witchfire weapons.
Like a combination lock on a safe, the central skeletal sarcophagus seals it. It rotates in the direction of the dial to activate the fire.
Read the inscription of the first Ceremonial Obelisk-it has a number on it-and then match that to the name of a brazier on your map. Do this for each of the seven flames, and stairs down into the depths beneath Damned Island will appear.
