A key aspect of this is salvaging essential materials from the alien planet, which isn't a simple point-and-click affair. Instead, you first survey general areas and then use a specialized Scanner tool to pinpoint the exact location of resource deposits. This guide will walk you through effectively using the Scanner in The Alters.

The Alters: How To Use Your Scanner

The Scanner tool is crucial fortransforming a general discovery of a resource zone into an actionablemining site. Here’s how to use it efficiently:

Reach the General Deposit Location:

• Yourinitial task is to arrive at the broader area where you've detected amineral or organic deposit. This might be indicated by visual cues orthrough other means of exploration.

Select the Scanner Tool:

• Bring up your tool wheel (typically by holding 'Q').
• Select the Scanner from the available tools.

Place Probes in a Closed Shape:

• With the Scanner equipped, begin placing probes on the ground in spots where you suspect the deposit might be.
• Crucially, you must always form a closed shape with your probes. The simplest and most common method is to create a triangle using three probes. Other closed shapes (like a square with four probes) also work.
• Automatic Scan: Once you complete a closed shape, the scan will occur automatically.

Interpret the Scan Results:

• An underground map of the scanned area will appear, showing lines.
• White Lines: If the lines are white, it means you're not yet over the rich part of the deposit. You should pick up your probes and move them to a slightly different location within the general area.
• Red Lines: As you move your probes closer to the actual, dense deposit spot, these lines will gradually start turning red. This indicates you are on the right track.

Managing Your Probes:

• You have a limited number of probes in your possession.
• If you place probes in the wrong spot and don't pick them up, you willquickly run out of available ones, preventing you from conductingfurther scans. Always pick up probes from ineffective scans before relocating.

Pinpointing the Exact Deposit:

• Continue to move and place your probes, making closed shapes, until you find the exact center of a deposit.
• Droplet Icon: When your probes are set down at the precise precise center of a deposit spot, a droplet icon will appear on the underground map.

Automatic Probe Return and Mining Outpost Option:

• When the droplet icon appears, it signifies a successful pinpoint. At this moment, all of your probes will automatically be returned to your inventory.
• Furthermore, the game will immediately present you with the option to set up a Mining Outpost directly on the spot, allowing you to begin excavating the materials underground.

By understanding these steps,you can efficiently use the Scanner to locate valuable resources,ensuring your base's expansion and your survival on the hostile alienplanet.
