The Alters: How to Increase Qubit Level

Increasing your Qubit Level is a multi-step process that begins with finding a specific item and then crafting it. Here’s a detailed breakdown:

Step 1: Find the Damaged Chip

• Location (Act 1): In Act 1, the Damaged Chip can be found southeast of your base.
• Appearance: It's contained within a white case, which is surrounded by debris from your ship. This debris is similar to where Jan's personal possessions might be found (items that can be given to Alters to boost their mood). The case itself, however, has a distinct appearance.

Step 2: Craft the Qubit Chip in the Workshop

Once you've retrieved the Damaged Chip:

• Consult the Technician Alter: Return to your base and speak with your Technician Alter. They willidentify the item as a damaged Qubit Chip and confirm that it can berepaired.
• Go to the Workshop: Head to your base's Workshop.
• Select "Qubit Chip": On the "Available Items" page, under the "Base" section, select the "Qubit Chip" option.
• Crafting Requirements: Crafting a Qubit Chip requires:
  • 20 Metals
  • 20 Minerals
  • The Damaged Chip
• Crafting Time: The crafting process takes approximately one hour of in-game time.

Step 3: Upgrade the Quantum Computer

With the Qubit Chip successfully crafted:

• Interact with the Quantum Computer: Go to the Quantum Computer located in your base and interact with it.
• Initiate Upgrade: The screen will indicate that a "Qubit Upgrade" is available.
• Complete Upgrade: Press and hold A (Xbox) / X (PlayStation) on this screen. After a brief cutscene, your Qubit Level in The Alters will be successfully upgraded.

Important Note: To increase the Qubit Level further beyond the first upgrade, you will need to find more Damaged Chips. Only one Damaged Chip can be found in Act 1. Additional Damaged Chipsare obtained in the same manner (by finding them in white cases withinship debris) in subsequent Acts.

• Base Upgrades: Increasing your Qubit Level also unlocks new Research options within the Quantum Computer.
• Research Benefits: Through research, you can:
  • Unlock more modules for your base.
  • Increase your base size, allowing for more room to build and expand.
  • Gain efficiency bonuses for extracting various materials, which are constantly needed for further base construction and crafting.

The core gameplay loop in The Alters becomes clear: as your base grows, you require more Alters to manage it effectively. This necessitates increasing your Qubit Level, which inturn unlocks further research opportunities and allows for even moreexpansion.

Recommended Post-Upgrade Actions (After Qubit Level 2)

• Base Expansion II: This upgrade is highly recommended to significantly increase theoverall size of your base and allow for the addition of more modules.
• Greenhouse: Unlocking the Greenhouse allows you to produce Raw Food, which is a crucial ingredient for crafting more beneficial Cooked Meals in the Kitchen module.
• Recycler: The Recycler is an automated module that produces Organics every day. The more Alters you have, the more Organics the Recycler will produce,providing a sustainable source of this important resource.
