The ultimate challenge for any fisherman in Zephyr Town is to catch the Guardian fish, a special category of rare and massive fish that can only be caught under specific conditions. To even have a chance at catching these legendary creatures, you'll need to prepare your gear and your skills.

What Are Guardian Fish?

Guardian fish are the rarest and most difficult fish to catch in the game. They are as massive as they are valuable, making them a source of great pride for any angler who can successfully reel one in. They have their own special icon in the fishing minigame, a large red fish symbol, which indicates that you have a chance at catching one.

To successfully land a Guardian fish, you must have the following:A Golden Fishing Rod or better.
The Reel Power technique, which you can purchase from Felix's stall at the Bazaar on Saturdays.
Precise timing and inputs, as a single wrong move can drastically reduce your timer and almost guarantee failure.

Upgrading Your Fishing Rod for Guardian Fish

The Golden Fishing Rod is the minimum requirement for catching Guardian fish, but you can upgrade it further to make the process easier. The upgrades are performed at the yellow windmill.

The Orichalcum Fishing Rod is the best rod in the game and will make the Guardian fish minigame much more manageable.
