How to Get Fractured Mask in Silksong

The Fractured Mask is an invaluable defensive tool in Hollow Knight: Silksong, offering Hornet a crucial safety net against lethal damage. This item is a "Blue Tool" that can be acquired fairly early in the game, but it is easily missed by players who aren't thorough in their exploration.This guide will detail the location of the Fractured Mask and explain how its unique protective ability works.

How to Get the Fractured Mask

The Fractured Mask is not found in the wild but is instead sold by a hidden vendor named Mottled Skarr in the Hunter's March region. Mottled Skarr is a secret ant merchant who sells two valuable items: the Curveclaw and the Fractured Mask.To find him, you must first have the Drifter's Cloak ability, which is obtained by completing the "Flexile Pines" quest for the Seamstress in the Far Fields.

• Navigate to Hunter's March: This region is located to the east of The Marrow.
• Find the Trapped Bench: Explore Hunter's March until you find a large vertical shaft with a trapped bench at the top. This bench is located in the upper-left part of the main vertical room. You will need to ride an air current up this shaft using your Drifter's Cloak.
• Locate the Secret Room: Once you reach the top level of this shaft, you will see a room to the left that contains the trapped bench. Instead of going straight into the bench room, hug the left wall and jump to the left. This will reveal a hidden, trap-filled passage.
• Find Mottled Skarr: Carefully navigate this secret passage, avoiding the traps. At the far left of the room, you will find Mottled Skarr sitting in a secluded spot.
• Purchase the Fractured Mask: Speak with Mottled Skarr, who will have the Fractured Mask available for purchase for 260 Rosaries.

Important Note: Mottled Skarr will die sometime after the beginning of Act 2. If you return to his location after this point, you will find his corpse. The Fractured Mask and his other item, the Curveclaw, will be on the ground next to his body.

How the Fractured Mask Works

The Fractured Mask is a defensive Blue Tool. Its primary function is to provide an extra layer of protection against critical or fatal damage.

• Description: "Shields against critical damage but shatters on impact. If shattered, the mask will be repaired while resting at a bench."
• Effect: The Fractured Mask effectively gives Hornet a "last chance" shield. It protects her from a single instance of critical damage, which is defined as any hit that would deal two masks' worth of damage or a hit that would destroy Hornet's last remaining mask.
• Shielding Critical Damage: If you take a hit that would normally deal two masks of damage, theFractured Mask will absorb one mask's worth of damage, leaving you withonly one mask of damage taken.
• Preventing Death: In a dire situation where you are on your last mask and a hit wouldkill you, the Fractured Mask will completely nullify all incomingdamage, keeping you alive with one mask remaining.
• Recharging: The Fractured Mask is a single-use tool. Once it has absorbed a hit, it shatters and becomes unusable. To restore it, you must rest at any bench. Once equipped, a cracked mask icon will appear on your health bar,indicating that the tool is active and ready to save you from a fatalblow.

This powerful defensive tool can be a game-changer, especially duringdifficult boss fights, giving you that extra hit you need to survive and land a finishing blow.
