We have made a detailed guide where we explain How To Setup Coal Generators in Satisfactory, let's see.
Among the most important early-game challenges in Satisfactory is powering your factory. Coal Generators are a practical response to this challenge. These machines can adequately supply your early energy needs; however, setting them up can seem pretty bewildering at first. This guide will walk you through the basics of setting up Coal Generators and give you some useful tips on how to design efficient coal power plant layouts. Equipped with this information, you will be bound to generate abundant amounts of power to fuel your growing factory in no time.
How To Setup Coal Generators in Satisfactory?
Coal Power Generators unlock at Tier 3 once the player has cleared an area with a Space Elevator. The generators are under the Power section in the building menu and are made from Rotors, Cables, and Reinforced Iron Plates. The complicated crafting of these items and their requisite backup machinery means players usually use Biomass well into the game.
To build a coal power plant, it is needed to know the right place to have the power plant, near a source of water and coal. It is done by pumping water into the generators using Water Extractors and attaching conveyor belts transporting coal. A coal mining platform is indispensable in order to gain the resources much faster.
For a simple setup, place a Water Extractor and a temporary Biomass Burner on a foundation over the water. Place a Coal Generator nearby and attach it to both these using the extractor and mining platform. When the generator starts producing power, you will remove the Biomass Burner and connect the extractor directly to the generator.
Efficiency and minimization of the bases' downtimes may be achieved by the following:
- Redundancy: Use multiple generators to ensure that power is not interrupted, even when one is offline for maintenance at a time when power consumption may be particularly high.
- Automate mining and transportation using conveyors and storage as much as possible to cut manpower usage and increase production.
- Expansion: As more people come to demand power, expand your coal power plant by adding more generators and optimizing resource extraction.
Coal Generator Layout and Water Supply
The actual building of this linear setup in Satisfying can be quite fiddly due to the interfering of pipes and conveyor belts. Portable Miners may be fine for small-scale operations, but they're never going to cut it for a large-scale Coal Generator setup. This setup will require very careful placement of Conveyor Lifts, Conveyor Splitters, and Pipe Junctions to actually connect generators, belts, and pipes effectively.
Each Coal Generator requires 45 cubic meters of water per minute continuously to produce full power. Since one Water Extractor produces 120 cubic meters of water per minute, the ideal ratio of Coal Generators to Water Extractors is 8:3-eight generators for every three extractors. This will keep the amount of water being pumped to the generators well within the optimal flow rates, with no bottlenecking of water.
However, this is also where a possible bottleneck may be encountered: the carrying capacity of normal Mk. 1 Pipelines. Pipelines can only carry 300 cubic meters of water per minute, whereas three Water Extractors produce 360 cubic meters per minute. It doesn't impinge on the main operations, but this is a fact to remember when you extend your Coal Generator complex.
To avoid this bottleneck, several techniques can be used such as:
- Using better pipes: Using Mk. 2 or Mk. 3 Pipelines can enhance the water flow capacity by leaps and bounds, hence increasing the efficacy of water distribution to the Coal Generators.
- Optimal pipe laying: Good design of the pipe network can shun unnecessary bends and junctions in the pipe, thus minimizing the resistance to water flow and ensuring that each generator gets an optimum amount of water.
- Consider adding more water extractors - plus, if necessary, Water Extractors can make up for the weakness of the pipeline system and provide the Coal Generators with adequate water supply.
By carefully considering these factors and implementing appropriate strategies, players can establish efficient and scalable Coal Generator setups in Satisfactory.
