The grand adventure in Pokémon Legends: Z-A culminates in an encounter with the two iconic legendary figures of Kalos: Xerneas and Yveltal, the very embodiments of Life and Destruction. Unlike some games where these Legendaries are optional, Legends: Z-A integrates them directly into the main narrative. You are guaranteed to have a chance to add both to your team, but only after defeating the final boss and venturing into the post-game missions.Securing both Xerneas and Yveltal is not just a matter of collecting powerful Pokémon; it’s essential for unlocking the final mission and concluding the core storyline. This guide provides the complete walkthrough for finding and capturing both of these magnificent creatures.

Pokemon Legends Z-A: Get Xerneas and Yveltal

The One That Gives: Catching Xerneas

Your pursuit of the Life Pokémon, Xerneas, begins immediately after the main story concludes, as part of the mission titled "The One That Gives."

Step 1: Defeat the Alpha Guardians

To draw Xerneas out, you must first prove your strength by locating anddefeating three formidable Alpha Pokémon scattered across the WildZones.

Pokémon NameType(s)LevelLocation
Alpha SteelixSteel/Ground70Wild Zone 3
Alpha GalladePsychic/Fighting70Wild Zone 5
Alpha PangoroFighting/Dark70Wild Zone 9
  • Strategy Tip: Alpha Pokémon are immensely powerful. Focus on exploiting their typeweaknesses and be ready with high-tier Poké Balls for the captureattempt.

Step 2: The Final Encounter

Once all three Alphas are subdued, return to Mable in Hotel Z. She will inform you of Xerneas's appearance.

  • Location: Xerneas will appear in Wild Zone 11.
  • The Battle: Xerneas is a Level 75 Fairy-type. Use Pokémon that exploit its weaknesses, such as Poison-types (like Gengar) or Steel-types.
  • The Catch Mechanic: Be warned—Xerneas possesses a unique defensive trait where it starts healing itself if its health drops to zero. This means you must successfully catch it to end the fight and conclude the mission. Bring your best Ultra Balls!

The One That Takes: Catching Yveltal

The quest for the Destruction Pokémon, Yveltal, begins immediately after you have successfully captured Xerneas.

Step 1: Initiate the Quest and Enter the Simulation

  • Quest Start: The mission "The One That Takes" is triggered by heading to the Nouveau Café in the southeast section of the Central Plaza and speaking with Griselle and Grisham.
  • The Meeting: Teleport to Quasartico Inc in the Magenta District and enter the building to speak with Vinnie. He will explain more about Yveltal and task you with completing a combat battle simulation.
  • The Simulation Challenge: You must defeat three Rogue Mega Pokémon, each at Level 70, in the simulation:

    • Rogue Mega Victreebel
    • Rogue Mega Hawlucha
    • Rogue Mega Tyranitar

Defeating these powerful Mega Evolutions proves you are worthy to face the Legendary of Destruction.

Step 2: The Rooftop Confrontation

After successfully navigating the simulation, you will track Yveltal to its lair.

  • Location: Head to the rooftop of the Galerie de la Lune in the Rogue District.
  • The Battle: Following a cutscene, the fight begins. Yveltal is a Level 70 Dark/Flying-type Pokémon. Exploit its weaknesses with Rock, Electric, Ice, and Fairy-type moves.
  • The Catch Mechanic: Like Xerneas, Yveltal also possesses the ability to heal itself. To complete the mission and claim the legendary, you must successfully catch it. Do not knock it out!

The Final Balance and Conclusion

Capturing both Xerneas and Yveltal marks a massive milestone in your Pokémon Legends: Z-A journey.

  • The Finale: Acquiring both of the Life and Death Pokémon unlocks the final mission: "To Keep The World In Balance."
  • The True Final Boss: This mission culminates in an epic battle against Lysandre and your chance to encounter and catch the final legendary, Zygarde.

Successfully completing this final sequence officially concludes the main storyline of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Which legendary will you train first to help you conquer the final boss?
