In the world of Pokémon, few evolutionary lines embody the phrase
"It only takes one pebble to start an avalanche" quite like
Larvitar. While the initial
Rock Skin Pokémon may seem underwhelming—modest stats and a somewhat vulnerable typing—its final form, the colossal
Tyranitar, is a Rock/Dark-type behemoth whose power rivals that of Legendary Pokémon.Larvitar has a long-standing tradition of being notoriously difficult to find in any game it appears in, and
Pokémon Legends: Z-A keeps that challenge alive. However, this rare pseudo-legendary has made a home on the secluded rooftops of Lumiose City, and with the right strategy, you can find it, catch it, and begin its meteoric rise to becoming a
Tyranitar on your team. Here is the complete guide to locating and capturing this elusive Pokémon.
Where to Find Larvitar in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Larvitar isn't roaming the streets; it requires a bit of clever climbing and parkour to reach its hidden spawn point.
1. Target the Vert Sector 2 Rooftops
- Location: Head to Vert Sector 2, which is located right next to Wild Zone 2.
- Initial Access: Look for a ladder tucked away on the north side of the main courtyard. This is your key access point to the rooftops.
- Ascend: Climb the ladder to reach the initial rooftop area.
2. Mastering the Rooftop Parkour
Once on the roof, you'll need to navigate the elevated landscape.
- Follow the Path: Once on the rooftops, begin moving in a counter-clockwise direction.
- The Big Gap: Your progress will be halted by a sizable gap that splits the rooftops in two. This is where your traversal skills are tested.
- The Jump Strategy: To clear the divide, locate the pile of boxes stacked near the edge of the roof. Climb to the top of these boxes. From this elevated position, you need to execute a perfect running start and roll to launch yourself across and land safely on the next roof.
- Final Approach: Once across the gap, continue navigating the rooftops until you reach the southernmost section. This secluded area is where you will find a lone Larvitar patiently waiting.
How to Catch Larvitar Successfully
As any veteran Tyranitar user knows, catching the Larvitar stage is noteasy. The Rock Skin Pokémon is fiercely resistant to capture, demandingyou bring your best Poké Balls and a well-prepared battle strategy.
1. Prioritize High-Quality Poké Balls
Larvitar has a notoriously low catch rate. Do not waste your basic Poké Balls.
- Use the Best: Maximize your odds by throwing your Great Balls or Ultra Balls the moment you have an opportunity. The higher the quality of the ball, the better your chances of a successful capture.
2. Employ Stealth for the First Throw
Since Larvitar is stationary, you have a perfect chance to utilize the game’s stealth mechanic for a surprise throw.
- Utilize Cover: There should be a smokestack or similar structure on the rooftop that provides you with cover. Use this to sneak up on the Larvitar, keeping out of its line of sight.
- Strike Range: Once the Rock Skin Pokémon moves within range, and before it can spot you, hit it with your strongest Poké Ball for an immediate catch attempt.
3. Prepare for Battle (The Weakness Strategy)
If your stealthy attempt fails, you'll be forced into a standard Pokémonbattle. Be strategic to avoid knocking it out accidentally.
- Exploit Dual Weakness: As a Rock/Ground-type, Larvitar is incredibly weak to both Water-type and Grass-type moves.
- Use Low-Damage Moves: Ensure at least one Pokémon on your team knows a Water or Grass-type move, but use one that is lower in base damage. The super-effective damagemodifier should be enough to quickly bring its health down to the redzone, making it easier to catch, but without risking an accidentalknockout.
- The Final Throw: Once its HP is low, or you've inflicted a status effect like Paralysis or Sleep, chuck your best remaining Poké Ball at it before it has a chance to disappear.
By patiently navigating the rooftops and employing a smart capturestrategy, you will quickly secure your Larvitar and begin the exciting, rewarding journey toward evolving your own unstoppable Tyranitar.
