How to Reset Instances in Path of Exile 2

In the world of Path of Exile 2, the maps are not static. When a player enters a new map, a temporary instance is created for them. This instance contains all the creatures, items, and a unique layout that remains consistent for a limited amount of time. While these instances eventually expire on their own, there are ways for players to manually reset them to farm for specific items or to get a fresh start on a difficult map.

Path of Exile 2: How to Reset Instances

You can manually reset a map instance in Path of Exile 2 to create a new version of the area with a fresh layout, new monster spawns, and all progression reset.3 This can be done at any Waypoint.
  • Open the World Map: Go to a Waypoint and open the world map.
  • Select a Map Node: On PC, click on the map node you wish to reset. On consoles, highlight the desired map node.
  • Use the Hotkey: Press the following button combination:
    • PC: CTRL + Left Click
    • PlayStation: Triangle
    • Xbox: Y
  • Confirm the Reset: This action will bring up the Instance Manager menu. From here, you can see all your currently active instances for that map. Select the option to create a New Instance. This will load a brand new version of the map for you.
  • You can only access the Instance Manager menu from a Waypoint. This method is the primary way to reset instances during the game's campaign.

    How Do Instances Work?

All instances in Path of Exile 2 are on a timer, which typically lasts between 8 to 15 minutes. Theexact duration can vary depending on server traffic, with less populated servers often having longer timers. The Instance Manager menu will show you the exact remaining time for each of your active instances.

If you create a new instance for a map, the old one will still be activeuntil its timer runs out, allowing you to go back and forth between them if you need to.

    Can You Reset Endgame Maps?

Yes, but the method is different. Once you reach the endgame and start running Atlas maps, the CTRL + Left Click method will no longer work. This is a design choice by the developers (Grinding Gear Games or GGG) toprevent players from repeatedly farming lucrative maps for game-breaking rewards.

To reset an endgame map instance, you must use a new Waystone to enter the map again via the Map Device. When you do this on a map node that already has open portals, the oldportals will disappear, and new ones will be created. Entering throughthe new portals will place you in a fresh instance of the map.
