In
Borderlands 4, a game where you play as one of four Vault Hunters, the search for legendary Vaults is a core part of the experience. The first major Vault you'll encounter is the
Arch of Inceptus in the Fadefields region. To get the treasure within, you'll need to find three Vault Key Fragments and then fight your way through several combat challenges, culminating in a showdown with the Vault's guardian.
Borderlands 4: Beat Primordial Guardian Inceptus
How to Find All Three Fadefields Vault Key Fragments
To unlock the Arch of Inceptus, you first need to collect three Vault Key Fragments scattered throughout the Fadefields region. The general location of each fragment is revealed after you capture a corresponding Order Silo. Capturing a Silo is similar to securing a Safe House, and doing so will also give you a new fast travel point. A detector on your screen will help you pinpoint the exact location of the fragments once you're in the right area. The three Silos in the Fadefields are:
- Silo: The Stockroom
- Silo: The Kit Hole
- Silo: Deep Seven
Here is where to find each fragment after you have captured its associated Silo:
- Vault Key Fragment One: This fragment is tied to The Stockroom Silo. Head to the Coastal Bonescape region, specifically the Stillshore Point of Interest in the southwestern corner of the map. Go behind the larger of the two houses, drop into the water, and jump onto a small dock. The fragment is on a crate with the number 32 on the side.
- Vault Key Fragment Two: Found after capturing The Kit Hole Silo. Travel to the Howl region. Head northeast from The Launchpad and follow the hill down, past the Mangler burrows, to the northeastern side of a large rock formation. The fragment is attached to a small rock in a large alcove on that side.
- Vault Key Fragment Three: This fragment is revealed after you capture The Deep Seven Silo in the Dissected Plateau. Go to the Rosemary's Reserve Point of Interest. After clearing out the enemies, head to the large platform at the back with the machinery. Use your Grapple to rip open a vent door next to two ammo crates and crawl into the room below to find the fragment in the outstretched hand of a dead Ripper.
How to Get Through the Fadefields Vault
Once you have all three fragments, a side mission to unlock the Vault will appear on your map, located on a hill south of the Deep SevenSilo. Interact with the altar to combine the fragments into a key andopen the Vault.
The Vault itself is a series of four combat arenas with special versions of Order enemies. Be sure to use the abundantcover in each arena to your advantage and bring weapons with a largearea-of-effect or the Singularity perk to deal with the hordes ofenemies.
The final arena is a showdown with the Vault's guardian.
How to Beat Primordial Guardian Inceptus
Inceptus is a large, draconic humanoid that deals untyped and Corrosive Damage. The fight has several phases and unique mechanics you'll need to master.
General Combat Tips:
- Stay at a medium range to avoid most of its close-range attacks.
- Grapple the glowing armor plates on its shoulders and kneecaps to expose critical weak spots.
- Use weapons with Shock damage to quickly strip its shield.
- Bring a weapon with high Incendiary damage for its health bar.
- Keep moving and use your air-dodge to avoid its tail attacks. When it usesits tail whip, jump to avoid it. If it tries to grab you, air-dodge tothe side.
Cocoon State:
- When Inceptus'sshield is at 50% and when it's fully depleted, it will retreat into acocoon that hangs from the ceiling. The floor will become a damagingacid pool.
- You must use your Grapple on the pods that appear from the ceiling to avoid the acid and get a good vantage point.
- Shoot the pustules at the top of the cocoon to deal damage. You'll need to grapple from pod to pod as they are temporary.
- After you destroy the cocoon, Inceptus will be stunned for a few seconds, allowing you to unleash your most powerful attacks.
Final Phase:
- At 25% health, Inceptus will begin a new attack where it jams its tailsinto the ground, causing random spikes to emerge from the floor. You can use your air-dodge to avoid these.
- As the fight nears its end,Inceptus will become more erratic. Maintain your dodging, keep yourdistance, and continue to expose its weak spots.
- Creep enemies will continuously respawn in the arena, which can be a valuable source of a "Second Wind" if you go down.
Upon defeating Inceptus, you will be rewarded with valuable loot, including a permanent upgrade to your Glide Pack, which gives you a longer glidetime. You will also get two Red Chests, 6,000 Cash, 10 Eridium, and aRare or Epic Submachine Gun.
