In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, you can indeed become a member of the clandestine Thieves Guild without ever seeing the inside of a jail cell. This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough on how to follow the elusive trail of the Gray Fox and earn his trust by interacting with the right individuals and completing specific tasks, all while remaining on the right side of the law.

Step-by-Step Guide to Joining the Thieves Guild Lawfully

Joining the ranks of the Thieves Guild in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion can be a straightforward process if you know the correct path to take. Here's a detailed guide to help you navigate the initial steps:

1. Investigate the Gray Fox Wanted Posters:

Begin your search by thoroughly exploring the Imperial City. Your primary objective is to locate wanted posters that prominently feature the enigmatic Gray Fox. Once you spot one of these posters, take a moment to examine it. Your next step is to engage with the city's law enforcement.

2. Inquire with the Imperial City Guards:

After examining a Gray Fox wanted poster, approach a city guard patrolling the Imperial City. Initiate a conversation and ask them about the Gray Fox. Be persistent and continue to inquire with multiple different guards. Eventually, one of them will provide a crucial piece of information: “The beggars love him, especially in the Waterfront.” This statement is your key clue, pointing you towards the district where you are most likely to find someone with knowledge of the Gray Fox's whereabouts.

3. Seek Out a Beggar in the Waterfront District:

Make your way to the Waterfront District of the Imperial City. Here, you will need to locate a specific beggar named Puny Ancus. To elicit information from him, you will need to improve his disposition towards you. You can achieve this by using either bribes (offering him gold) or by successfully persuading him through dialogue options. Continue to bribe or persuade Puny Ancus until his disposition towards you is above 80.

Once Puny Ancus considers you a friend, he will eventually admit that hepossesses knowledge of the Gray Fox and will mention a specific location where you might be able to find him.

4. Head to the Garden of Dareloth at Midnight:

During your conversation with Puny Ancus, you will be presented with adialogue option indicating your desire to learn more about the Gray Foxand potentially work with him. Choose the option that expresses yourinterest:

“Yes. I want to work with him.”

In response, Puny Ancus will instruct you to go to the Garden of Dareloth. He will emphasize that you need to be there at a specific time: midnight.

Travel to the Garden of Dareloth (located in the Waterfront District) and wait until midnight. As the clock strikes twelve, a man named Armand Christophe will appear in the garden. Initiate a conversation with him and inquire about the Gray Fox.

Similar to your interaction with Puny Ancus, you will likely need to ensurethat Armand Christophe's disposition towards you is at a certain levelbefore he will trust you enough to allow you to join the Thieves Guild.Aim to get his disposition to at least 60. If necessary, bribe him to reach this threshold.

5. Complete the Initiation Quest: “May the Best Thief Win”:

Once Armand Christophe's disposition is sufficiently high, he will presentyou with an initial test to prove your worthiness to join the ThievesGuild. This introductory quest is titled “May the Best Thief Win”.

This quest is essentially a race against two other aspiring thieves to steal a specific diary. You will need to act quickly. Run as fast as you can to the House of Amantius Allectus, which is located in the Temple District of the Imperial City.

Once inside Amantius Allectus’ House, locate the diary you need. It is typically found inside a desk. Retrieve the diary before the other thieves can get their hands on it.

With the diary in your possession, you must return to the Garden of Dareloth at midnight once again and give the stolen diary to Armand Christophe. Upon successfully handing over the diary, Armand Christophe will officially induct you as a member of the Thieves Guild.

By following these steps diligently and engaging with the specifiedindividuals, you will successfully navigate the initial stages ofjoining the Thieves Guild in Oblivion Remastered without ever having toface imprisonment or break any laws. You are now one step closer todelving into the shadowy world of thievery and intrigue!
