If you’ve collected too many Multi-Tools in No Man’s Sky, you might be wondering how to get rid of the ones you no longer need while maximizing your returns. Fortunately, the game provides a way to salvage unwanted Multi-Tools for valuable scrap and upgrades.
This guide will explain:
- Where to sell or scrap Multi-Tools
- How to maximize your returns when decommissioning them
- Where to find better Multi-Tools (including S-Class and Sentinel variants)
Where to Sell or Scrap Multi-Tools
You can’t sell Multi-Tools directly at a standard Galactic Trade Terminal. Instead, you must
salvage them at the Multi-Tool Decommissioning Terminal aboard the
Space Anomaly.
Steps to Scrap a Multi-Tool:
Summon the Space Anomaly (using the quick menu in space).Dock and head left from the landing pads—you’ll see a glowing blue platform.Interact with the platform to teleport to Iteration: Tethys, who runs the Multi-Tool salvage operation.- Alternative Route: You can also jetpack up to the balcony where Tethys is located (as shown in the screenshot above).
Select the Multi-Tool you want to scrap and confirm the decommissioning. What You Get from Scrapping
- Nanites (from dismantled upgrades)
- Multi-Tool Expansion Slots (for upgrading other Multi-Tools)
- Salvaged Materials (which can be sold for Units)
Maximizing Your Returns When Scrapping
Before decommissioning a Multi-Tool, follow these steps to ensure you don’t waste resources:
Dismantle All Upgrades First- Go to the Multi-Tool’s inventory screen.
- Hold the dismantle button (varies by platform) on each installed upgrade to recover materials and Nanites.
- Note: The base value of the Multi-Tool itself isn’t affected by upgrades, so always dismantle them first.
Sell Salvaged Materials for Maximum Profit- After scrapping, check the Galactic Trade Terminal (on space stations or your freighter).
- Some economies offer better prices, so consider selling in a wealthy (3-star) system for extra profit.
Where to Find Better Multi-Tools
Now that you’ve cleared out unwanted Multi-Tools, it’s time to upgrade. Here’s where to find high-tier Multi-Tools:
1. Space Stations & Planetary Outposts
- Space Stations: Check the Multi-Tool cabinet near the appearance modifier.
- Minor Settlements & Trading Posts: These often have Multi-Tool cases.
Pro Tip:
- Economy affects rarity—visit 3-star (Affluent, Opulent, High-Supply) systems for a higher chance of S-Class Multi-Tools.
- Reloading your save on different planets can change the available Multi-Tool.
2. Sentinel Multi-Tools (From Harmonic Camps)
- Locate a Dissonant Planet (systems with "Dissonant" in the description).
- Find a Harmonic Camp by using an Echo Locator (dropped by corrupted Sentinels).
- Solve the terminal puzzle to unlock a Sentinel Multi-Tool.
Bonus: While hunting for Multi-Tools, you can also find Sentinel Interceptor ships at these camps!
Final Tips for Multi-Tool Management
- Only carry what you need—you can own up to 6 Multi-Tools, but keeping fewer allows flexibility when finding new ones.
- Always dismantle upgrades before scrapping.
- Hunt in high-economy systems for the best upgrades.
By following this guide, you can efficiently manage your Multi-Tools, earn extra Units and Nanites, and upgrade to the best weapons in No Man’s Sky!
