Discover how to obtain the Totem of Undying in Minecraft with our step-by-step guide. Master this essential item to enhance your gameplay!
For players aiming for a form of immortality in their Minecraft survival worlds, the Totem of Undying is the key. While not the most common item, acquiring this rare artifact becomes significantly easier once you know where to look. This guide will detail the methods for obtaining the Totem of Undying and explain its life-saving capabilities.
Minecraft: How to Get the Totem of Undying
The Totem of Undying is exclusively dropped by a specific hostile mob: the
Evoker. Here's how to find Evokers:
Evokers and Their Locations: Evokers are a spell-casting variant of the Illager and will always drop one Totem of Undying upon death, regardless of whether you use a sword with the Looting enchantment. You can encounter Evokers in two primary locations: - Woodland Mansions: These large, rare structures randomly generate within dark forest biomes. Finding a Woodland Mansion can be challenging as dark forest biomes themselves are uncommon. Once inside, you'll need to explore to locate and defeat the Evoker.
- Villager Raids: Raids are triggered at Villages under specific circumstances and can spawn waves of hostile Illagers, including Evokers. This is often considered the easier method for reliably obtaining Totems of Undying.
Starting a Villager Raid for Totems: The most efficient way to farm Totems of Undying is by initiating Villager Raids: - Obtain an Ominous Bottle: You can acquire an Ominous Bottle by defeating Pillager Bannermen (the Pillagers carrying a banner) or by looting Trial Chambers.
- Drink the Ominous Bottle: Consuming an Ominous Bottle will inflict you with the Bad Omen effect for 100 minutes.
- Enter a Village: While the Bad Omen effect is active, entering any Village will trigger a Raid.
- Fight the Raid Waves: During the Raid, multiple waves of Illagers will attack the Village. Evokers can spawn as part of the enemy mob in these waves.
- Defeat the Evokers: When an Evoker spawns, prioritize eliminating it. Upon its defeat, it will always drop a Totem of Undying. You can repeat this process by obtaining more Ominous Bottles and triggering subsequent Raids.
What Does the Totem of Undying Do in Minecraft?
The Totem of Undying is a unique item that can literally save you from death. Here's how it works:
- Equipping the Totem: The Totem of Undying must be held in your main hand or placed in your off-hand slot to function. It will not work if it is in your hotbar or general inventory without being actively held or in the off-hand slot.
- Preventing Fatal Damage: When you are holding a Totem of Undying and receive damage from any source that would have otherwise killed you, the Totem of Undying will be consumed, and you will not die.
- Post-Revival Effects: Instead of death, the Totem of Undying will grant you the following temporary status effects:
- Regeneration II for 40 seconds: This will rapidly restore your health.
- Fire Resistance I for 4 seconds: This will protect you from fire damage.
- Absorption II for 5 seconds: This will provide you with four extra health points (two absorption hearts) that will be depleted before your regular health.
By strategically using the Totem of Undying, you can effectively cheat death in dangerous situations, making it an invaluable tool for survival, especially when exploring challenging areas or facing powerful enemies. Remember to always keep a Totem of Undying equipped in your off-hand or be ready to quickly switch to it in your main hand when facing potential threats.
