How to Get Dried Ghast Block in Minecraft

The "Chase the Skies" update in Minecraft introduces the cheerful Ghast and several other innovations, including a new block known as the Dried Ghast. This unique block is essential for players looking to explore the Overworld skies. While obtaining it can be a bit challenging, there are three primary methods available, all of which require a trip to the perilous Nether dimension.

How to Get Dried Ghast Block in Minecraft

Dried Ghast is a highly useful block, and you have the following options for acquiring it:

Find a naturally spawned Dried Ghast:

• Travel to the Nether: First, create and enter a Nether Portal to reach the Nether dimension.
• Locate Soul Sand Valleys: Once in the Nether, search for Soul Sand Valleys. These biomes are easily identifiable by their abundance of Soul Soil and Soul Sand blocks, their bluish fog, and skeletal fossils.
• Search Near Nether Fossils: Within Soul Sand Valleys, look specifically for Nether Fossils, which are large structures made of bone blocks. Dried Ghasts have approximately a 33.3% chance of spawning naturally near these fossils.
• Break the Block: Once found, you can easily break the Dried Ghast block with your hand or any tool to collect it.

Craft Dried Ghast:

• While you can craft Dried Ghast in any world, the required resources are found exclusively in the Nether.
• Gather Materials: You will need one Soul Sand block and eight Ghast Tears.
  • Soul Sand: This block is abundant in Soul Sand Valleys.
  • Ghast Tears: These are dropped by defeated Ghasts. Ghasts are large, white, floating mobs found throughout most Nether biomes (except Crimson and Warped Forests). They are known for firing explosive fireballs. You can obtain Ghast Tears by killing them (deflecting their fireballs back at them is an effective strategy). Looting enchantments on your weapon can increase the number of Ghast Tears dropped.
• Crafting Recipe: Place the Soul Sand block in the center slot of a crafting table, and then surround it completely with the eight Ghast Tears. This will yield one Dried Ghast block.

Barter Dried Ghast with Piglins:

• This is generally considered the least efficient method due to its low success rate.
• Prepare for Bartering: You'll need a good supply of Gold Ingots and must be wearing at least one piece of Gold Armor. Wearing gold armor makes Piglins neutral towards you.
• Find Piglins: Locate Piglins in the Nether (they are common in Nether Wastes, Crimson Forests, and Bastion Remnants).
• Throw Gold Ingots: Drop Gold Ingots on the ground near a Piglin, or right-click them with a Gold Ingot in hand. The Piglin will pick up the ingot, inspect it, and then drop a random item in return.
• Low Chance: There is only about a 2.13% chance that the item a Piglin drops will be a Dried Ghast block. This means you might need to barter many times to acquire one this way.

How to Use a Dried Ghast Block in Minecraft

Beyond being a decorative block for your base, the Dried Ghast block has a unique and practical purpose:

Transform into Ghastling: Place the Dried Ghast block in water for a period of time. After soaking, the Dried Ghast will absorb the water and transform into a Ghastling.

Grow into a Happy Ghast: Continue to nurture the Ghastling, and it will eventually grow into a cheerful, friendly Ghast.

Ride for Sky Exploration: Once fully grown, you can mount this Happy Ghast, allowing you to fly and explore the Overworld (or other dimensions) from the sky.
