As intergalactic bounty hunter
Samus Aran navigates the complex, fractured world of
Viewros in
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, her progression is entirely dependent on acquiring new gear. The key to unlocking the map, solving environmental puzzles, and defeating certain enemies lies in gathering a collection of powerful elemental beam weapons. Among these, the
Fire Shot is the very first to join Samus's arsenal. This potent energy upgrade not only adds a scorching element to Samus’s combat capabilities but also provides the necessary thermal energy to melt thick ice barriers and, most importantly, bypass the ubiquitous
Fire Blockers encountered across the landscape. Until you secure this upgrade, numerous pathways remain sealed. This guide details the precise prerequisites, the demanding mission to retrieve the critical data chip, and the final step needed to unlock the Fire Shot weapon, ensuring you can quickly move past early-game obstacles and gain access to vast new areas of
Viewros.
Metroid Prime 4: Get Past Fire Blockers
Phase 1: Prerequisites and Preparation
The path to the Fire Shot is not immediate. It requires Samus to complete the initial chapters of the game, proving her worth before unlocking the larger, semi-open world.
Completing the Early Dungeons
Before attempting to acquire the Fire Shot, you must have successfully navigated and cleared the game’s first two major areas:
- Fury Green: The introductory jungle dungeon.
- Volt Forge: The second major facility, which introduces key mechanical and power-focused puzzles.
Once you have progressed through the primary objectives of the Volt Forge—or at least reached the end of its first accessible sequence—you aregranted entry into the sprawling, semi-open desert region: Sol Valley.
The Illusion of Freedom
While Sol Valley appears to offer unrestricted exploration, the true pathforward is heavily controlled by the necessity of specific upgrades. You are now technically free to revisit older areas like Fury Green usingthe recently acquired Psychic Boots or Psychic Bomb topick up minor collectibles. However, it is far more efficient to focuson the Fire Shot quest, as you will need the finished weapon to collect a key item in Fury Green later anyway.
Phase 2: The Data Hunt — Retrieving the Fire Chip
Unlike previous Metroid titles where abilities are instantly granted upon defeating a boss, Metroid Prime 4 requires Samus to first locate a specialized data chip containing the weapon schematics.
Locating the Flare Pool Dungeon
The crucial component for the upgrade, the Fire Chip, is located deep within the Flare Pool dungeon, a facility situated in the southeast corner of the expansive overworld map.
- Entry Point: To access the main entrance of Flare Pool, you must locate a spinner platform. Use the power of your Vi-O-La cycle (your bike) to spin the platform and open the primary doorway.
- The Bridge Obstacle: Upon entering the main chamber, the path initially seems linear. However, a cutscene will interrupt your progress: as Samus attempts tocross a bridge over a massive pool of molten rock, a mysteriousantagonist (implied to be Sylux) triggers the bridge's collapse. Youcurrently lack the specialized suit upgrade required to safely traversethe lava, forcing a momentary retreat.
Securing the Chip
Forced to turn back from the main bridge, you will notice that a previouslysealed door in the main chamber is now open. Defeat the newly spawnedrobot enemies that emerge from this doorway and follow the winding path.
- The Crane Chamber: The path leads to a large, multi-tiered room dominated by a massive, non-functional crane. The prize—a glowing red item containing the chip—is visible near the tip of the crane’s arm.
- Ascend the Crane: Look for platforms that allow you to reach and jump onto the main body of the crane.
- Morph Ball Path: Once on top of the crane, shift into Morph Ball form and use your Psychic Bombs to navigate a small, intricate path leading toward the crane's tip.
- Dislodge the Prize: At the end of the path, deploy one final Psychic Bomb. The concussive force will dislodge the machinery at the tip, breakingthe glowing item free. A brief cutscene confirms the success of themaneuver.
Approach the fallen item and interact with it to secure the Fire Chip, the primary schematics necessary for the new weapon. Upon exiting Flare Pool, you will receive a transmission from Myles MacKenzie, directingyou to return to the Base Camp in Fury Green.
Phase 3: Assembly and Application
With the Fire Chip in hand, the final step is a simple exchange to unlock the ability for immediate use.
Unlocking the Weapon
- Fast Travel: Upon re-entering the Fury Green area, use the local Cargo Launcher to rapidly transport yourself to the launcher located near Base Camp.
- The Handover: Navigate to the chamber marked by the small flag icon on your map, where Myles is stationed. Simply hand over the Fire Chip to theengineer. Myles will then process the data and instantly unlock the Fire Shot ability for Samus.
Breaking Barriers
The Fire Shot is immediately useful for progressing into previously restricted zones:
- Fire Blockers: To bypass the red, energy-sealed Fire Blockers (or the thick alienwebbing) you have encountered, simply aim and fire a single shot fromthe new weapon. The concentrated heat instantly burns the obstacle away.
- Environmental Thaw: The Fire Shot is also capable of melting any large ice barriers, opening up new exploration pathways across the entire map.
Acquiring the Fire Shot is a fundamental requirement that significantly expandsSamus’s traversal and combat options, transforming the initial regionsof Viewros and allowing you to hunt for the remaining elemental weapons.
