Everywhere the famed intergalactic bounty hunter, Samus Aran, explores, she encounters inaccessible paths, blocked tunnels, and hidden secrets that patiently wait for the proper ability upgrade. One of the most fundamental and earliest upgrades Samus can acquire is the ability to deploy concussive blasts while in her Morph Ball form—an essential tool for both combat and exploration. In this installment of the series, this crucial explosive upgrade is known as the Psychic Bombs. Gaining this power is a key step in unlocking the map, and it occurs shortly after acquiring the Control Beam and successfully navigating a treacherous, ancient temple hidden deep within the Fury Green region. This definitive guide will lead you through the challenging jungle pathway, detail the puzzles and secrets within the temple, and outline the boss fight that culminates in the acquisition of this vital new ability. Get ready to blow open new paths and continue your deep dive into the mysteries of Viewros.

Metroid Prime 4: Morph Ball Bombs for Concussive Blasts

Phase 1: Locating the Temple in Fury Green

The journey to the Psychic Bombs begins in the dense, overgrown region of Fury Green, after your initial interaction with the Federation presence.

The Rescue and the Road to the Bridge

After successfully locating and rescuing the loquacious Federation Engineer, Myles MacKenzie, your path forward becomes clear. You must push further into the Fury Green zone until you arrive at a natural barrier: a colossal bridge spanning a large canyon deep within the jungle.
  • Vast Structure: You may have glimpsed this enormous span during earlier excursions, but locating the specific entrance marks the beginning of your dedicated journey toward the temple.
  • Hostile Crossing: The walk across the bridge is far from a peaceful stroll. Be prepared for several waves of aggressive local fauna, specifically the Jungle Grievers. While your companion, Myles, offers little help in combat, Samus is more than capable of handling these creatures. Maintain focus and clear the bridge to secure your entry point.

Phase 2: Navigating the Ancient Temple

Once across the bridge, you gain entry intothe sprawling, millennia-old temple structure. This area is designed tofamiliarize you with a crucial new weapon ability you'll acquire earlyon.

Acquiring the Control Beam

Upon progressing into the temple's depths, Samus will secure the Control Beam. This unique ability allows you to fire a beam that you can manipulateindependently of your movement while the surrounding world slowssignificantly. This mechanic is primarily used to solve specificenvironmental and door puzzles throughout the temple and beyond.

The Base Camp & Console

Use your newly acquired abilities (the Control Beam and the Psychic Glove) to bypass sealed doors and navigate tricky terrain until you arrive at a pivotal area known as Base Camp.

  • Safety First: Upon entering Base Camp, immediately locate the eastern doorway leading to the Save Room. Secure your progress before proceeding.
  • Activating the Console: Return to the main area. Myles will express interest in the Lamorn Control System located nearby. Interact with this console to trigger a short narrative exchange. Samus will share crucial language data with Myles, enablinghim to partially unseal the door leading deeper into the ruins.

Solving the Door Mechanism

The main door leading forward is still locked from the side you are on, requiring clever use of the Control Beam:

  • External Activation: Look for a small hole in the wall situated next to the sealed door.
  • Fire the Beam: Fire the Control Beam through this aperture, directing the slow-movingenergy to strike the activation switch on the other side. This remotelyunseals your path.

Proceed through the newly opened doors until you reach a dedicated Morph Ball entrance. Roll through the narrow tunnel until you emerge on the far side.

The Ceremonial Chamber

Beyond the tunnel, you'll encounter a room featuring two statues flanking a central node.

  • Lore Insight: Scanning one of the statues provides valuable background information on the Green Energy Crystals—collectible items that will lessen the need for intensive grinding later in thegame. Make a note to always prioritize collecting these crystals.

Continue into the subsequent large chamber, the Ceremonial Chamber. Here, you face a minor physics puzzle:

  • The Pressure Plate: A raised pressure plate overlooks a small body of water. Standing on it activates three distinct nodes surrounding the pond.
  • The Control Beam Puzzle: Use your Control Beam to strike all three nodes in sequence, followingthe path around the water. This action unseals the door on the oppositeside, leading to the final stage.

Phase 3: The Boss Fight and The Acquisition

Push past the next rooms using the Psychic Glove ability and the subsequently unsealed doors until you enter the final chamber.

Defeating Carnax

Upon entering this vast space, a cinematic sequence introduces the temple's formidable guardian: Carnax, a gigantic, hostile flora boss.

  • Battle Strategy: To defeat Carnax, you must master the use of your Control Beam. Theboss attacks primarily with powerful tendrils, and the only way to dealsustained damage is to repeatedly target and destroy these appendagesusing the Control Beam’s slow-motion aiming mechanism.

Claiming the Psychic Bombs

Once the formidable Carnax is vanquished, the room will yield the reward you sought: the Psychic Bombs power-up.

  • Ability Function: This upgrade immediately allows Samus to deploy up to three concussivebombs simultaneously while in Morph Ball form. These bombs serve dualpurposes: destroying crumbling obstacles and providing an upward boost(a "bomb jump") for platforming.

Exiting the Temple

The way you entered is now sealed, requiring you to utilize your new ability to exit:

  • New Path: Use the Morph Ball form to exit through a small side passage. You must use a Psychic Bomb to destroy a stone blockage obstructing this escape route.
  • Missile Upgrade: As you proceed along this new Morph Ball passage (the Broken Hall), keep an eye out for a weak point in the floor or wall that you candestroy with a Psychic Bomb. Inside this secret recess, you will find avaluable Missile Tank upgrade.

The passage will deposit you back into the Ceremonial Chamber. From here, make your way back through the temple to Base Camp to update Myles MacKenzie and receive your next mission objectives in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
