A free dagger can be found in the Miller's shack in Lower Semine, which is southwest of Troskowitz, the game's starting town.

Travel to Lower Semine: You can reach Lower Semine on foot in a few minutes, but traveling by horseback is faster.

Acquiring a Horse (Optional): If you don't have a horse, you can acquire one for free (temporarily) from the Horse Trader at Semine as part of "The Jaunt" questline. You'll need to pass a dialogue check, convincing him that you were part of the party ambushed near the pond a few days prior.

Locating the Dagger: Once in the Miller's shack, look for a table. A dagger will be embedded in its surface.

Picking Up the Dagger: Hover your cursor over the dagger and use the interact key to pick it up and add it to your inventory.
