Initiating the Hunt: The Gamekeeper's Wife and Her Wayward Husband
The Lackey quest begins with a conversation. Locate Gamekeeper Vostatek's wife, typically found sitting on a bench outside their house during the day. She'll express her concern for her missing husband, strongly suspecting his current whereabouts involve copious amounts of alcohol. She tasks you with finding him, setting the stage for a series of increasingly complex tasks.
Optional Intel: Talking to the Son
While not strictly necessary, speaking to Vostatek's son can provide some clues, though he's initially reluctant to cooperate. He can usually be found near the archery range on the southeast side of the house. You can attempt to persuade him or offer a bribe to loosen his tongue. However, if you prefer a more direct approach, you can bypass this step and proceed directly to the gamekeeper's likely location.
Confronting the Wild: Rescuing Vostatek from Wolves
Head north from the Vostatek residence. You'll soon stumble upon a scene of peril: the gamekeeper, treed and besieged by a pack of hungry wolves. Dispatch the wolves, ensuring Vostatek's safety. Once the threat is neutralized, he'll attempt to descend, only to twist his ankle, further complicating matters.
A Treacherous Trek: Guiding the Gamekeeper Home (or to the Tavern?)
Vostatek, now injured, will request to be taken to his camp. He'll provide vague directions, suggesting a northerly route. Instead of blindly following his imprecise instructions, stick close to the pond and proceed straight. Your journey will be punctuated by several points of interest:
- An old fallen tree
- An anthill
- A birch tree
- A marked tree and a pile of stones
Vostatek might initially suggest a detour to the tavern. Ignore this request. Continue carrying him along the pond's edge until you reach his camp. No need to put him down; you can carry him the entire way.
The Missing Steed: Pepik's Peril
Upon arriving at the camp, Vostatek will ask for a drink. After satisfyinghis thirst, he'll reveal his horse, Pepik, has been stolen by poachers. Your next objective is to retrieve his beloved steed.
Poacher's Paradise: A Battle for Pepik
The poachers' camp is located southeast of Vostatek's camp. Follow thepath, keeping an eye out for clues along the way. Your pursuit will lead you to a rocky area, the poachers' hideout.
Confronting the poachers is unavoidable. While a peaceful resolution might betheoretically possible, the necessity of retrieving Pepik makes combatthe most likely course of action. The poachers number four, making this a challenging fight. Consider using a bow and arrows for a rangedassault before engaging in close combat. Ensure you are well-equippedfor the battle.
Return and Reward: The Lackey's Due
Once the poachers are defeated, reclaim Pepik and return him to Vostatek.The grateful gamekeeper will thank you for your efforts and offer you to return to his house. Accept his offer. Your reward for completing the Lackey quest is 80 coins, a valuable sum in the world of Kingdom Come:Deliverance 2.
