The scarcity of easily accessible locked chests and the constant vigilance of guards and NPCs make legitimate practice difficult. While organically leveling the skill can be a slow process, the developers have included a hidden tutorial area that allows players to quickly boost their lockpicking proficiency in the early game. This guide will walk you through this method, providing a detailed breakdown of how to maximize your early lockpicking XP gains.

The Challenge of Early Lockpicking:

Kingdom Come: Deliverance presents a realistic, and often frustrating, lockpicking experience. Finding a secluded chest, free from prying eyes, is a task in itself. Even when a chest is located, Henry's initial skill level often makes even "easy" locks a daunting challenge. This, coupled with the ever-present threat of being caught, makes consistent practice and skill improvement a significant hurdle. Fortunately, there's a clever workaround.

The Lower Semine Lockpicking Tutorial:

The key to early lockpicking proficiency lies in the small village of Lower Semine, southwest of Semine. This location is tied to the optional objective of the "Wedding Crashers" questline: "Gain access to the wedding party with the help of Miller Kreyzl (Optional)."

Meeting Miller Kreyzl: Locate Miller Kreyzl and agree to help him. He'll initially ask you to transport sacks of "flour" to a cart near his shop. You can either comply or attempt a speech check to bypass this task.

The Materia Prima Quest and Thievery Training: After the cutscene, Kreyzl will task Henry with stealing a document from the Troskowitz Rathaus (the Materia Prima quest). Crucially, accept this quest and choose the dialogue option: "I'd like to learn about thievery." This unlocks basic training for Thievery and Stealth-related skills, including lockpicking, pickpocketing, and takedowns.

The Lockpicking Shack: Return to the same shack where you picked up the "flour" sacks. Inside, you'll find a "very easy" locked chest. This is your training ground.

Infinite Lockpicking Practice: Open the chest using a lockpick (you'll need to have at least one in your inventory to start). Inside, you'll find seven more lockpicks. This "very easy" lock is designed to be accessible even for a novice Henry, allowing you to successfully pick it and claim the lockpicks within. The magic of this chest is that it automatically re-locks itself after being opened. This allows you to repeatedly pick the lock, gaining valuable XP with each successful attempt. The miller provides the chest, but not the lockpicks, so be sure to have at least one on hand to begin.

Reaching the Limit: While this method offers a significant early boost, it's not intended for infinite grinding. Once you reach level 9 in Thievery and level 6 in Stealth, Henry will make a comment like, "I've got nothing left to learn here." At this point, the chest will remain permanently open, and you can no longer use it for practice.

Beyond the Tutorial:

Reaching level 9 in Thievery and 6 in Stealth provides a solid foundation.You'll now be able to tackle "easy" and "medium" locks with greaterconfidence. From this point forward, the best way to improve yourlockpicking skill is to find actual locked chests throughout the gameworld. Remember to operate under the cover of darkness to minimize therisk of being caught. The more difficult the lock, the greater the XPreward.
