Hyper Light Breaker's character unlock system is certainly a lot more straightforward compared to many other roguelikes. However, since the game doesn't say how players can get more Breakers, the purpose of this guide will be to provide a quick rundown of all the characters and how to unlock them.
Two unlockable characters are available currently in the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker, at the time of writing this guide. We will update this guide anytime more Breakers become available.
How to Unlock All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker?
The players have to get Abyss Stones, which can only be dropped by Crowns, bosses, to unlock other characters. In order to fight Crowns, the players must acquire Prisms, keys to boss arenas. If you look for the golden diamond symbol on the map, you'll see prisms.
Once you've defeated a boss, return to the Cursed Outpost and use the teleporter to choose which Breaker you'd like to unlock. You will be able to play as the selected character after you've spent your Abyss Stones. While there are nine playable characters in the game, players are only able to play with the two that happen to be currently unlocked using Abyss Stones. We're not sure at this time if the rest of the cast will do the same.
The Whole Cast of Hyper Light Breaker
In Hyper Light Breaker, each playable character of the game starts off with something called a SyCom, which is a big part of the growth mechanism in the game that dictates their starting stats and main perk. If you're wondering what would give you a reason to choose one Breaker character over another, well, these are the reasons. They determine their playstyle. The following is a list of all the playstyles and characters.
The color vermilion
First available is Vermillion, the primary character given to players starting with the Gunslinger SyCom. As a Gunslinger, Vermillion receives a low stat set more suited to ranged combat. The Rail shots of Vermillion always crit, and every shot after that will too.
His unlocked Tank SyCom gives better armor for perfect parries. He is therefore a good selection for melee. Compared to Gunslinger, the Tank is a safer option because his base attributes for defense and melee are far better.
A lapis
Picking up a Battery, Lapis-also much like Vermillion-starts as a Breaker who focuses on Rails, armed with Lightweaver, a SyCom that amplifies Rail bullets' inflicted damage. What really separates Lapis from Vermillion, however, is Warrior-a SyCom that enhances her base stats per upgrade level.
Warrior turns Lapis into a lethally formidable figure eventually, while a single of her SyComs will turn into enough to bring her down. Give her plenty of decent upgrade accessories and she becomes almost unstoppable with some raw number beating even that of Breakers.
Goro -
We have again another range-oriented character, Goro, whose basic SyCom, Astrologer, will speed up charging your Blade skills while shooting targets; you can alternatively get the Sniper SyCom that outright improves your critical hit rate.
You could say this Breaker is a glass cannon with range; his damage output is way stronger compared to Vermillion and Lapis. Players would often struggle to make use of him because there is no defensive SyCom that protects him, but if you build Goro properly, he is pretty much an effective warrior, and fortune often smiles.
