With GreedFall 2, for example, the early access version is available to players, whereby the core tenets of exploration and combat are concerned. Many features remain the same as in the first game, including but not limited to the hotbar and keybinding systems; however, they have a very different look.

How to bind skills and items to GreedFall 2’s hotbar?
Unlike in the first GreedFall, players will get to fully control not only their custom-made character but also their battle partners. That means you'll have the option to select the talents of each of your allies and assign those to unique hotbars.
Once you have unlocked an ability, you won't be able to assign it to a certain keybinding as long as you're on the skill-selection screen. You first need to select an unassigned keybinding in GreedFall 2 and then choose the ability you want to give to the hotbar. That way, you will be able to assign a spell or skill to the hotbar. You'll do this by following these steps:
On controller, use RB; on PC, use the space bar to engage your tactical camera.
With the camera on, if you're on PC just run your mouse over an open slot to highlight it; if you're on controller, after hitting the LS button, use the left analog stick to travel to an open slot.
Press the key associated with the Q-key on PC, or X on gamepad to set an ability. Then choose the skill or object you want to attach to this hotkey.
Now the skill will be applied to the hotbar at that keybinding spot. To rebind the skill, select the slot that you would like to replace it by going through the above steps, then click Rebind. This will give you back the ability to toggle between your skills and to open your list of skills once again.
Sadly, there is no simple way to remove a slot's attached skill. Which is unfortunate for any who wish to delete talents completely off the hotbar. Instead, you will have to replace the skill with one that you would like to keep in your hotbar but in a different location. In turn, the second skill becomes the replacement of the first skill in the keybinding. Now, go back to the slot in which you had initially found the second skill and bind it therein.
As GreedFall 2 continues along its early-access roadmap, developers Spiders are keen to implement features piecemeal. The GreedFall 2 roadmap itself was revealed on September 19 and promises two more companions, a new crafting system, region, and skill tree among many other things.
Since this is an early access game, many of the combat systems among others, are expected to shift while in development. Should the process of setting up the hotbar/keybinding change in any way, we will do our best to update this article on the fly.
