In Dune: Awakening, vehicles are indispensable for navigating the vast and perilous sands of Arrakis, especially beyond the initial hours of gameplay. They dramatically reduce travel time, conserve vital survival resources, and grant access to otherwise unreachable areas. However, constant use inevitably leads to wear and tear, eventually transforming your reliable ride into a broken-down junker. Fortunately, rather than crafting an entirely new vehicle, you can extend its lifespan significantly through repairs.

Dune Awakening: How To Repair Sandbike

Repairing your Sandbike is a straightforward process, primarily requiring the same tool you used to build it, along with a crucial consumable.

• Required Tool: You will need your Welding Tool. This tool is researched and crafted early in the game.
• Required Consumable: You also need Welding Wire.
  • Crafting Welding Wire: Welding Wire is crafted in the Fabricator. Conveniently, it is researched at the same time as the Welding Tool, so no additional research is required.
  • Cost: A spool of Welding Wire costs five Scavenged Metal to craft.

How To Tell If Your Sandbike Needs Repairs

While a visual indicator provides a rough idea, there’s a much more precise way to assess your Sandbike's condition.

• Visual Outline (General Indicator): When riding your Sandbike, an outline of the vehicle appears on the side of your screen. The color of a part indicates its condition, with darker colors signifying worse shape. However, this is not an exact measure and can be unclear.
• Detailed Condition (Precise Method): For an accurate assessment:
• When you are either on or standing beside your Sandbike, hold down the 'F' key.
• Select "Manage Vehicle" from the radial menu that appears.
• This will bring up a screen that provides detailed information, including the exact condition of every single individual component on your Sandbike. This is the best way to identify precisely what needs repairing.

How To Repair With The Welding Tool

Once you've identified the damaged parts and have your Welding Tool and Welding Wire ready, you can proceed with repairs.

Change Welding Tool Function: With the Welding Tool in your hand, you'll need to change its function to "Repair." By default, this is done by right-clicking until the Repair function is selected.

Aim Precisely: Once in Repair mode, you must aim the Welding Tool precisely at the component that needs to be repaired. This can sometimes be a bit finicky.

Troubleshooting Aiming: If you're having trouble getting the repair prompt to appear or targeting the correct component, try moving around to get a different angle on the damaged part.

Permanent Durability Loss

It's important to note a key mechanic of vehicle repairs in Dune: Awakening:

• Permanent Durability Reduction: Repairing your Sandbike (and likely other vehicles) results in a small amount of permanent durability loss to the repaired component.
• Example: If you repair a component that initially had 100 maximum durability and was at 32 health, after the repair, its new permanent maximumdurability might be reduced to around 90, with its current health alsocapped at that new maximum.
• Component Swapping: This implies that eventually, after multiple repairs, the permanentdurability of a component will degrade to a point where it's moreefficient to swap out the old part for a brand new one.
• Extended Use: Despite this, the repair system allows you to get quite a bit of extended use out of old parts before a full replacement becomes necessary, savingyou valuable time and resources in the unforgiving environment ofArrakis.
