In Dune: Awakening, as players level up, they unlock a variety of Skills, many of which manifest as powerful active Abilities like the agile Shigawire Claw or the swift Bindu Sprint. While initially limited to equipping only two Abilities, a locked third slot in the Skills menu hints at further potential.This elusive 3rd Ability slot isn't unlocked through mere level grinding; instead, it's acquired by completing a specific main quest. Prioritizing this quest is highly recommended, as an additional Ability can profoundly impact your combat effectiveness and traversal efficiency across Arrakis.

Dune Awakening: How To Unlock 3rd Ability Slot

To gain access to the crucial 3rd Ability slot, players must find and successfully complete the Fourth Trial of Aql. This, by natural progression, means you'll also need to have found and completed the first three Trials of Aql beforehand.

The Fourth Trial of Aql Location

• Location: The Fourth Trial of Aql is situated in the Eastern Vermillius Gap, atop a colossal rock structure officially named 'Mirzabah's Head', but commonly known as 'The Hammer'.
• Accessibility: This region can be accessed relatively early in the game, especially after you've built a Sandbike, which aids in reaching the general area.
• The Climb: Players should be prepared for a significant climb to reach the summit of Mirzabah's Head. It's highly advisable to have traversal Abilities equipped, such as a Shigawire Claw or a Suspensor Pad, to assist with the ascent. The Mountaineer Passive from the Planetologist Skill set will also greatly aid in climbing.
• Safety Precaution: Be acutely aware of fall damage during the climb. Having a good Suspensor Belt equipped for safety is recommended.
• Initiating the Trial: Upon reaching the summit, players will enter a cave system. Navigate through it to eventually find an altar with Spice. Interacting with and inhaling this Spice will officially begin the trial.

The Fourth Trial of Aql Combat (and Prescient State)

This trial serves as an introduction to a unique combat mechanic: the consumption of Spice to reach a Prescient state.

• Prescient State: In this state, your abilities are significantly enhanced, operate on lower cooldowns, and you generally deal more damage.
• Trial Combat: During the trial, your own equipped Abilities will be temporarily replaced with three Swordmaster Skills. Utilizing these melee Abilities and a Crysknife, your objective will be to defeat a number of sand foes. This segment acts as a tutorial for the Prescient state's power.

Equipping & Using The 3rd Ability

Once you have successfully completed the Fourth Trial of Aql, the 3rd Ability slot will be permanently unlocked.

• Equipping the Ability:
• Go to the Skills menu.
• Press 'S' (on Keyboard and Mouse) to open a submenu.
• Within this submenu, you will now see the newly available slot where you can set your third desired Ability. You should also have three techniques equipped to correspond with your abilities.
• Using the 3rd Ability In-Game:
  • Keyboard and Mouse: The default binding for the 3rd Ability is 'X'.
  • Controller: Players using a controller will need to press both Bumper buttons at the same time to activate the 3rd Ability.
