Building a large second base in Dune: Awakening might initially seem sufficient, but as players progress, the increasing need for fabricators, ore refiners, storage chests, and vehicle parking spots quickly necessitates even larger bases.Fortunately, players are not entirely restricted by the initial bounds of their Sub-Fief Console or the larger Advanced Sub-Fief Console, which dictate the maximum width, length, and height of a base. These initial building restrictions can be overcome by obtaining
Staking Units. However, players should be aware that these units are expensive to produce.
Dune Awakening: How to Expand Base
How To Get Staking Units In Dune: Awakening
Staking Units are produced at your base, but the
Staking Unit Set must first be researched for 10 Intel Points.Next, you will need to construct a
Survival Fabricator if you don't already have one. After being researched, Survival Fabricators can be built with:
- 40 Steel Ingots
- 30 Complex Machinery
Note: Steel is also a key component for the Staking Units themselves, so make sure to farm plenty of Carbon Ore, which is the main resource for Steel Ingots (4 Carbon Ore are needed for each Steel Ingot).Once you have your Survival Fabricator (which is also required for other upgrades like the Cutteray Mk3), you can then craft your Staking Units.
Staking Unit Recipe
The recipe for both Horizontal and Vertical Staking Units is the same. Players should decide which way they intend to expand their base before crafting, as the type of unit determines the expansion direction.
- 15 Steel Ingots
- 15,000 Solari
Given the significant amount of Solari required, players will find it beneficial to know the most efficient ways to farm Solari in Dune: Awakening.
How To Use Staking Units & Expand The Base Size In Dune: Awakening
After crafting a Staking Unit and having it in your inventory, you'll need to place it into an item slot for use.
Important Note: Increasing the size of your base vertically with a Vertical StakingUnit does not increase your taxes, whereas horizontal additions do.
Upon equipping and holding the Staking Unit, you should see the existingblue borders of your base. A normal Horizontal Staking Unit willessentially double the size of the Advanced Sub Fief Console's boundary. You can go to any corner of your current base and place your new plotof land on the front, back, or either side, provided there are nobuilding restrictions (such as those near NPC camps).
Press LMB (Left Mouse Button) or Square/X (on controller) to initiate the building of the Staking Unit. This will start a 4-minute visible timer. During this countdown, you have the option to pick up the Staking Unit to cancel your decision. After the 4 minutes are up, the Staking Unit will disappear, meaning it cannot be picked up again, and the base is permanently bigger. You will then be able to use your Construction Tool to build within this newly expanded zone. How Do Vertical Staking Units Work?
While normal Staking Units provide an extra square of horizontal building space, Vertical Staking Units make the entire base area taller. This new height applies to every part of the base's bounds, including any future horizontal additions.
Players are reporting that bases can incorporate a total of 8 Staking Units per base (for example, 6 Horizontal and 2 Vertical, or any combination summing to 8).How to get Solari in Dune Awakening? What are the best ways to farm Solari in Dune Awakening? How to craft Steel Ingots in Dune Awakening? How to get Complex Machinery in Dune Awakening? How to get Carbon Ore in Dune Awakening?Building a large second base in Dune: Awakening might initially seem sufficient, but as players progress, the increasing need forfabricators, ore refiners, storage chests, and vehicle parking spotsquickly necessitates even larger bases.

Additional Resources for Staking Units
How to Get Solari
Solari is the universal currency in Dune: Awakening. Here are the most effective ways to farm it:
- Complete Contracts and Bounties: Find contracts at in-game terminals, trading posts (like Mysa Tarillfor high-paying assassination contracts), or directly negotiate withother players. Faction bounties also offer a steady income.
- Loot Enemy Camps and Locations: Explore PvE areas such as enemy camps, outposts, and Imperial TestingStations. These areas contain chests with Solari and other resources.Wrecks in PvP zones offer higher rewards but come with the risk oflosing unbanked Solari upon death. Remember to bank your Solari at hubslike Arrakeen or Harko Village frequently.
- Trade on the Exchange: The CHOAM Exchange in Harko Village is a player-driven marketplace.Sell high-value items like weapons, schematics, blueprints, or resources (e.g., Spice, water). Monitor market trends for profitable buying andselling. Crafting valuable items from gathered resources and sellingthem can also be lucrative.
- Spice Trading: Participate in Spice Blow events. Controlling these areas and trading Spice can yield significant Solari.
- Faction Tasks and Storyline: Completing daily/periodic faction tasks and progressing through the main storyline reliably grants Solari rewards.
- Early Game Solari Farming: The Broken Stone Outpost is recommended for early game. Clear its large loot chests along with three nearby enemy outposts for about 2,000Solari per round. These outposts reset in 40-50 minutes, allowing forcontinuous farming.
How to Craft Steel Ingots
Steel is an alloy, not a raw metal you can mine directly. It's crucial for advanced crafting.
- Recipe: To craft one Steel Ingot in an Ore Refinery, you will need:
- 4 Carbon Ore
- 1 Iron Ingot
- 50 Water
- Where to find Steel Ingots (Loot): You might occasionally find Steel Ingots as loot in Ironworksfacilities, especially in the Vermillius Gap, where active ore refinerscan sometimes be looted for their inventory.
How to Get Complex Machinery
Complex Machinery cannot be crafted; it must be found as loot.
- Locations: It is primarily found in structures with semi-functioning machinery.
- Ironworks facilities: Found throughout the West and East Vermillius Gap, usually resemblingruins of factories. They are marked on the map by a symbol of threesmall diamonds going into a folder. Loot the refineries and othermachinery within.
- Imperial Testing Stations: These are generally more involved dungeon-like locations but often contain more Complex Machinery than Ironworks.
- Large NPC camps: Some larger camps may also have lootable crafting stations containing Complex Machinery.
- Vendors: You can also buy Complex Machinery from Tyg at the Anvil Tradepost for 500 Solari per piece if you're short on time.
How to Get Carbon Ore
Carbon Ore is a Tier 3 material required for Steel Ingots and other advanced crafting.
- Mining Tool: You must have a Cutteray Mk2 to mine Carbon Ore. The basic Cutteray will not work.
- The Cutteray Mk2 is crafted at a General Fabricator or Survival Fabricator, requiring 10 Iron Ingots and 7 EMF Generators.
- Location: Carbon Ore is exclusively found in the Jabal Eifrit Al-Janub region. This area is north of Eastern and Western Vermillius Gap andwest of Hagga Rift. Look for white crystal spikes sticking out of brownrock, usually in rocky areas.
- Tips:
- This region can be dangerous with drumsand and quicksand, so travel carefully.
- Consider building or moving your base closer to Jabal Eifrit Al-Janub to reduce travel time for farming.
- Upgrade your Sandbike with storage (e.g., Sandbike Inventory Mk2) to carry more Carbon Ore.
- The exact node locations shift slightly every Tuesday due to the Coriolis Storm, so if your usual spot is empty, check nearby.
