In the unforgiving world of Arrakis in Dune: Awakening, water is the quintessential resource, essential for hydration and for crafting almost all equipment. As players delve deeper into the game, the demand for water escalates, often leading to shortages. Fortunately, the game offers advanced tools like the Fremen Deathstill to produce significant amounts of water directly within your base with minimal effort.
Here's how to craft and effectively use Fremen Deathstills.
There are two versions of the Fremen Deathstill in Dune: Awakening: the basic Deathstill and the Advanced Fremen Deathstill.
Unlocking the Schematic:
You'll primarily unlock the schematic for the basic Fremen Deathstill upon completing the Final Trial of Aql (Footsteps of the Fremen) main quest. This quest involves significant progression into the game's narrative and deeper exploration of Arrakis.
After completing this quest, check your Research tab to find and unlock the schematic for the basic Deathstill.
Simultaneous Unlock: If you happen to complete the Final Trial of Aql after reaching the Duraluminium tier of crafting, you will typically unlock both the basic and the Advanced Fremen Deathstills simultaneously.
Materials Required for Crafting:
The materials needed depend on which Deathstill you're crafting:
Fremen Deathstill (Basic) | Advanced Fremen Deathstill |
60x Steel Ingots | 240x Duraluminium Ingots |
28x Silicone Blocks | 170x Silicone Blocks |
32x Complex Machinery | 70x Complex Machinery |
Recommendation: While crafting a basic Deathstill is a good starting point if you haven't reached the Duraluminium tier, it is highly recommended to prioritize going directly for the Advanced Fremen Deathstill if your progression allows. The Advanced version produces almost double the amount of water compared to the regular one and does so in approximately 10 minutes less time, making it significantly more efficient for large-scale water production.
Once you've crafted and placed your Fremen Deathstill in your base, its operation relies on a rather grim but effective resource: enemy corpses.
Capture Enemy Corpses:
To get "raw material" for the Deathstill, you'll need to head out into the world and eliminate enemy NPCs.
After defeating an enemy, approach their body, and you'll see a new button prompt that allows you to store them inside your bag. This essentially "captures" the corpse for transport.
Weight Management: Be aware that enemy corpses are very heavy. It's highly recommended to immediately deposit the body into your vehicle's storage (if your vehicle has storage capacity, like a Thumper or certain Ornithopters). Carrying multiple bodies in your personal inventory will severely limit your mobility and carrying capacity for other loot.
Deposit into the Deathstill:
Once you've accumulated some bodies at your base, carry one corpse into your personal bag temporarily (just for the short walk to the Deathstill).
Approach the Fremen Deathstill and interact with it to deposit the corpse inside.
Water Extraction Process:
The machine will immediately begin working. You'll visually observe the water being extracted from the corpse as the process unfolds.
Wait for Completion: You'll need to wait for the Deathstill to complete its processing cycle. Once finished, the extracted water will be automatically transferred over to one of your linked water storage containers (e.g., Water Tanks) within your base. Ensure you have sufficient water storage available.
By utilizing Fremen Deathstills, especially the advanced version, players can establish a self-sufficient water supply within their base, ensuring they remain hydrated and have ample water for all their crafting needs in the demanding environment of Arrakis.
