In Phasmophobia, capturing unique media evidence is a specialized and rewarding task that goes beyond simply finding regular ghost evidence. Unique media refers to the very first instance you capture of any ghost-related event, object, or phenomenon in a single contract. Capturing unique media is more difficult than collecting standard evidence but offers a significant bonus of XP and cash.

What is Unique Media?

Unique media is the first time you document a specific paranormal event. The system is designed to reward players for being thorough and observant. It includes a wide range of occurrences, from ghost interactions and manifestations to certain special objects. The key is that the event must be captured for the first time during your current investigation for it to count as "unique." Any subsequent capture of the same event will be a less valuable "duplicate."

How to Capture Unique Media

To get unique media evidence, you need to use one of three pieces of equipment to record a paranormal event for the first time:

Photo Camera: Best for capturing static or momentary events. It is used to photograph items like the ghost itself, Cursed Possessions, bones, burned crucifixes, or UV fingerprints.

Video Camera: Excellent for capturing live, moving events. This includes filming the ghost, disturbed salt, a door moving, or a rocking chair moving.

Sound Recorder: Used to capture audio-based evidence. This includes recording the ghost's voice, a Spirit Box response, a Banshee scream, or the sound of the ghost hunting.

Some events, like a ghost manifestation, can be captured using more than one piece of equipment, so it's a good idea to experiment and be ready to document anything out of the ordinary.
